Northern Expression's Twisted Rainbow-updated Jan 1 16

Post by karen4bells »

I've finally made a start on a project that has been in my stash for a year---it's Twisted Rainbow by Northern Expressions and will be a larger project that will be worked on between smaller projects. First is a photo of what the entire design looks like
Image
This is a photo of the first 1 1/2 bands of my stitching---using Picture this Plus Highland in belfast linen and Mo's Sale hand dyed cotton floss in Pixie Stix. I will be working the entire project in that thread alone, rather than using the colors from the project's photo

Now---for the backstory so to speak. I'd bought the chart Nov of last year and had the owner of Mo's Sale thread create the thread for me--using a photo from another stitcher's project as a reference. I then tried hard to find just the right fabric for it but kept coming up with nothing. A few weeks ago, our Squirrel posted that she was destashing some of her fabrics and what not, and most kindly sent me the beautiful fabric!! When it arrived, I knew it was what I'd needed for this project and very happily started right in. Mind you, the fabric arrived, along with some other wonderful goodies, just this past Wednesday, and by Thursday I was already stitching on it!!! Only two days ago!!
Thank you so much, Sally, you are beyond generous!!!

:applesauce: That is just beautiful! :applesauce: I love the backstory. A project is that much more special when there's an interesting backstory. The thread and fabric are lovely and the stitches are perfectly executed. As much as I do like doing the big solid-stitched projects, I do miss doing specialty stitches. That is beautiful!

Goodness me Karen, that was fast and what beautiful colours are in your thread too. So pleased that another of your 'to do' projects is now underway. :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

Oooo, beautiful! You've made great progress too. I've eyeballed this one off and on for a long time. I had no idea it had specialty stitches! That really makes it extra nice.

I too love the backstory. :D

There are actually 2 different versions of this design, one is with specialty stitches and the other is all cross stitch--I just hope I will be able to get thru all of the specialty stitches without too many issues. So far, so good.

Thank you for all of the encouraging replies---it really does help :)

:applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: Absolutely beautiful!! I loved stitching on my "Twisted Band Sampler" and doing the specialty stitches. I messed up on one of the last bands and need to spend a lot of time with :anotherfrog: to figure out what I did. Have Twisted Rainbow also. This is one of the most fun pieces. I would spend hours (it seemed) just looking at how pretty the stitches are. Can't wait to see your updates. You are going to do just fine on this.

This pattern is beautiful on its own. With that said, I love, love, love how you have adapted this for yourself and how you've had the patience to wait until the right fabric came along. This will be nothing short of a masterpiece when done.

Thank you for sharing! :D

That's a beautiful piece! I love the specialty stitches and how you had the patience to actually wait to start stitching it. I'm not sure that I would have had the patience to wait.

Time for an update on this one---I've finished the first 4 bands and here is how it looks

Image

Here is a close up of the specialty stitches

Image
I'm really enjoying it--it's not as scary as I thought it would be---here is a description of the specialty stitches used in band 2 and band 4

band 2 features the Upright Rice Stitch, and
two sizes of Diamond Eyelet Stitches.

band 4 features
the Scallop Stitch, the Norwich Stitch and the Double
Leviathan Stitch.

Thank you for all of the wonderfully encouraging replies, it does help a LOT!!

You're doing a beautiful job on this (no surprise there). I love the idea of doing it in all one color - that never really occurred to me but it looks fabulous!!!
