Nene Thomas cross stitch

Post by Lulu22 »

Nene Thomas has charted some of her own artwork on her website, so I am going to take the plunge and stitch one up, I asked my husband for the chart as a Christmas present :)

That is quite a lot of stitches.

Scratch that. That's HUGE!

Beautiful picture, and nice subject. My only thought, though, is the artists other images look a bit like the better images churned out in the 10's of thousand by the 'Poser/DAZ Studio' 3D figure animation/modelling community. This particular image isn't one of those, but while I do generally like the artist's body of work, it doesn't feel novel or hugely different from a lot of what is appearing.

Regards

Richard.

I really like the epic version, though the 'regular' version is also quite lovely. I look forward to seeing your progress! :D

I was referring to a number of pictures, but to take a single example, this one:http://nenethomas.com/art-prints/cassiramaithris/ doesn't feel a great deal different to me from this 3D model: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery ... s/2610114/. The artist in the Renderosity picture likes to render everything as sharp as possible, but with a bit of mist or atmosphere.. Or maybe this one: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery ... ts/408112/ or this: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery ... t/1593164/

Then there are a few others (admittedly many of lesser quality) available with this search: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery ... n+assassin. After looking at hundreds (or maybe more  ) you get a feel for what is mainstream '3D Fantasy' style, and I think most of Nene Thomas' work isn't greatly different from that.

I will say again, though, the one you have chosen is different from the rest of the work and is quite something.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi Richard,

I can see what you are saying, but I would say there is a tenuous link between the examples of the 3D artwork links you have shown and Nene Thomas art work, there is a crossover in style fantasy/goth, but those rendorosity images above are the sort that are used for computer games (and I have to say at risk of offending anyone that likes these images, they are rather crass and smutty looking) and its my opinion that Nene's artwork bears no resemblance to these, that being said I have not taken offence to your comments as you've said you like the image I have chosen (not that it matters if you didn't like it!!) everyone has there own opinions and are entitled to them, the world would be a rather boring place if we all thought the same!

That's fantastic!!! I can't wait to see you stitch it up!

Also, I didn't know HAED lost Nene Thomas's copyright, if she's doing her own charting that's what I assume happened?

Its a shame but I think it was a about a year ago that HAED stopped charting her work, I bought one in the sale back then for my ever growing stash!
Though I have to say despite being more expensive for the epic versions of Nene's charts I am so pleased she is selling her works as cross stitch, my husband let me have it as an early Christmas present so I have made a start, I just told him as its going to take me years and I best get started now! (also I bribed him by letting him have a computer game I'd bought him for Christmas  ).

I will update soon :)
