DMC magic guide

Post by Jewell Stitcher »

Hello everyone. I'm just starting to think about sorting out my next project which is a BAP!! My first this big (25 pages). I think I will be using 25 count and was wondering about using magic guide. I have a silly question. Does the magic guide assume you are going over 1 or over 2 ie are the squares 10 x 10 holes or 20 x 20? Hope this makes sense!

Good for you! I think the magic guide 25ct is marked 20 by 20 stitches over 1. (Of course you could stitch on the fabric any way you liked!)

I looked at DMC magic guide 25-count and it looks like it is assuming over-two. (At least the one I looked at did. I don't know if there are different ones.). Of course, you can still stitch it over one. I would suggest you take a highlighter and trace the block outlines in 20x20 blocks on the pattern so the pattern 'blocks' match the fabric blocks . . . . and remember that you're following the highlighted "blocks' on the pattern and not the usual 10x10 blocks.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I think I have decided not to get the magic guide and just get plain 25 count and then try gridding if I feel I need to (thanks to some great advice elsewhere on the forum :D).

Just in case you are interested here is the project I am sorting out:

It is Big Cats by Tilton Crafts. Can't wait to start it :whoop:

Lovely pussy cats!!!

Yes, 25 count is gridded every 20 holes. I'm using it for my HAED Rhyme and Reason which I'm stitching over 1. I add grid lines between the pink lines, so there's only half the gridding to do :ratherbe:
