Needle question

Post by Anaya »

Sooooo

I was sitting on my bed stitching. I placed my threaded needle on a magnetic strip on my magnetic board so I could kiss my hubby goodbye before he left for work. He left and my needle was gone! I looked everywhere, couldn't find it so I vacuumed. Right after that I found it on my comforter (why couldn't I have found it BEFORE I vacuumed? LOL)

Anyway, my question is this:

Could a size 24 needle cause any kind of serious injury? I have a husband with big feet and 2 cats with small feet.

I know it sounds silly, but this is the first time I've ever misplaced one for more than a couple minutes, because I'm usually pretty careful.

Thanks!

Yes Anaya needles and thread either together or separately can cause real damage to our cats dogs and other household pets. If the needle or thread is caught up in their coats and they lick and swallow the thread it can cause expensive as well as a lot of damage to an animals intestines.

A few years ago my DD dog swallowed and needle and thread but thankfully the vet was able to get him to vomit it up without damage to his insides. Now I chase up every dropped thread no matter how small and every needle with a magnet. For my bigger projects I have a needle 'minder' a longish plastic stand with foam inserts where the needles go so I can see at a glance if any are missing.

So pleased to know you found the needle and now at least you won't have to stop again to vacuum for a while. :D

So glad that you found the needle. I also go nuts if I drop a needle and though Laverne isn't very interested in thread, I will look until I find any dropped thread also. Because of the reasons Sally said. Before Laverne and Shirley, my cats were Merry and Pippin (hobbits) and Merry loved any string at all. Had to take him to the vet once because he swallowed some fishing line. Vet was able to get it out without damage. No tinsel on the Christmas tree. If there wasn't any string or yarn or thread he could find he would scratch at the rug edges or other fabric. How he managed to live 18 years was a mystery.

Needle would probably not be fun in your husband's foot, but I would think would hurt no more than if you prick a finger with the needle.

The most vacuumed area of my house is the rug under my sewing chair.

When I lose a needle, I'm in a near panic state because I'm afraid Jackson will find it before I do (usually with my foot!). As careful as I am, I still manage to "lose" needles - everything comes to a standstill until it has been located. I've heard about a tool that extends and has a magnet on the end - I could use one of those.

Get a nice big magnet to keep on hand for times when you lose a needle. Grab the big magnet and slowly wave it around like a metal detector in the area you lost the needle. It's saved my butt (literally, I lose needles in my chair) more than once.

I stepped on a needle I didn't know I had dropped and it stuck in my foot. It was a tapestry needle and it hurt. Dh had to pull it out for me.
