I get lustful for sparkly things, but this is just too expensive. I do have gold leaf, maybe I could try making a gold-wrapped thread...

Honestly all I could think was "Why" and what would you do with the snippets? You can't just trash it! It's gold.... I'll bet if you were to take it inot one of those "We buy Gold" places, they would weigh it and say"I'll give you $1 for the whole skein,

Hmm, I think I'd rather buy some more goldwork threads as I can't see on that page what exactly this is - is it a gold-wrapped core, a wire, gilt?

It's a skein of gold thread in a presentation box, at £75.00, for just the one skein it must be made from gold

DMC USA say "soft, flexible six-strand floss that incorporates a 24 karat gold wash" so... I don't know what that means. I'm guessing it's a form of plating / coating on each strand, rather than gold leaf wrapped around a core. But I don't know how that would be produced. (Some kind of synthetic core that holds a static charge so allowing the gold in solution to attach to the core? As you can tell, I'm not a chemist.)

You know, we whine when we can't get a color anymore and here they are presenting us with one that we know ahead of time is limited edition. Almost seems like a gag gift to me.
