It seems I am going to be here for a while. :( My rheuma juvenilis refuses letting go, so I can as well make myself comfortable and enjoy the buttermilk cake and hot chocolate with ginger.

Hope you feel better soon. This is my first peep in the door of the ward, still finding my way round. I did bring some flowers in case someone was in here. I read it is a virtual ward so your favourite flowers will be in the vase on your locker :)

:whoop: :whoop: Checking in for what should be a short recuperation. Dr removed the right side of the thyroid and biopsy showed nodule was BENIGN!!!! Took longest waiting for the discharge order. Got home about an hour ago and I have the expected side effects of a sore throat from the breathing tube, raspy (sexy?) voice and a little tired. My daughter went to go get the prescription filled (a little stronger pain killer ) and I'm in the mood for catching up on things here as a I lounge in a super comfy bed. I know I will be sleepy in a bit and I'm not going to do much stitching today but think, unless I'm taking the pain med, tomorrow should be a stitchy day. I just am so relieved!

So glad you had good news Carole and that you don't have to worry anymore!

I hope everyone in here is feeling better soon and back to stitching.

wendywombat, what's the best way to use ginger for migraines? I've found peppermint helps with the nausea but not with the migraine itself. It never hurts to have another remedy to try. Migraines are the worst--definitely not something you'd wish on anyone.

I am happy it went well. My rheuma keeps bothering me. A week ago today I had to take my 1st actual painkiller pill for this year, and since then I have taken 1 pill every morning. This may be a hard winter for me. Let's hope my kidneys won't start aching. If they do, I have to change to another medicine that doesn't cause me the pain.

I find just eating a few pieces of crystallised ginger which I buy at the health food shop, it's also sold here in France in some of the bigger supermarkets, helps with the nausea. I have to say that since 'going through the Change' my migraines have taken on a different slant. Less pain, but more visual disturbances. Almost like vertigo, and my speech becomes affected. I can't put a sentence together. I rarely take pain killers now with migraine as it doesn't help, but I crave sweet stuff and the ginger does help me. I've had scans done to make sure it's nothing more sinister.
Rest and a dark room seems the best cure for me now. Sorry that this isn't more helpful to you. I can't remember the name of the migraine pain killers I used, they were suggested by my Dr. I know that drug prescriptions are different in the States so the name of mine probably wouldn't help you.
I certainly am with you in not wishing a migraine on anyone else!! I hope you 'grow' out of the worst as I seem to have done.

I wish you ladies all the best with all your health issues. It may be I'm here until I can leave the painkiller away for a while. When is that day? I don't know.

I missed reading the migraine bit earlier but agree ginger is good for nausea, as is lying in a darkened room which has already been mentioned. An eye sleeping mask is good too as it shuts out everything.

Could you eat a rich tea biscuit, even bit by bit? I know with migraine the last thing you want to do is eat but it does help if you can do this. They are very plain biscuits & are also good for morning sickness as that's what helped my mum when carrying me. A rich tea biscuit with a cup of tea. I always keep some indoors as occasionally I get a migraine, thankfully not so often now I am older. Hope you do not get them too often.

Aw, thanks! RJ (rheuma juvenilis) keeps bothering me. Maybe there will be more snow coming. I hate the idea, but well, I have my painkiller and my ginger.

Thanks! It always helps to have something else to add to your bag of tricks when dealing with these. For me, each one is a little bit different. I've found that ice packs to the head can provide some relief.

Thankfully I don't get them as often as some people do, but sometimes they do linger for a couple of days. I'm also hoping they will get better as I get older, as that seemed to be the case for my grandmother and my mom.

I very rarely get migraines anymore, and they were never as bad as these are described (or didn't seem so to me). I did grow (old) out of them and I'm sure my blood pressure medication helps, too. What I found was how careful I had to be the next day -- a feeling of ultra-wellbeing, a too-clear head, that sort of thing, of which I was (rightly) suspicious. :thinks:

How terrible! My rheuma has made my life quite miserable, but I can't even imagine how you must feel. I wish you all the best and hopefully the doc can help.
