Knitted baby shawl

Post by minij »

Well I am afraid that I havn't been on the forum much recently  as some of you may remember I am expecting my first grandchild at the beginning of December. I am about half way through a cross stitch Christmas stocking (will post a pic later), I am going to start a baby sampler but recently I have been spending most of my time knitting a shawl. It has taken me far longer than I expected but partly due to the fact that the inner blackberry stitch border I made a mistake in and had to undo not sure of the equivalent to :anotherfrog: 58cm . Anyway it is now finished so thought I would show you a couple of pics. Sorry pics are so big but I still havn't worked out how to make them smaller  Forgot to say it's a square shawl just folded it diagonally for the pic

This one is a cloe up so you can see the ribbon and stitches better

I have knitted dozens of baby shawls and I have to say that this one is nothing short of beautiful, I have never seen this one, could I ask what make of pattern and the number is please? What thickness of wool? Beautiful is not enough, it is perfect, i know the new mum will love it and get lots of comments about the shawl, and have fun with the new grand child, they grow up so quickly, don't miss a second.

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments :D

crafterglen The pattern is from Patons Baby Shawls collection 2 it has a number on the booklet PBNA000-01004 the pattern says to knit in 3 ply, but I used 4ply so it just came up a bit larger which is what I wanted.
This is the book it's the 'Rib and lace with blackberry stitch' on the outer border you are meant to drop 2 stitches all the way round but after trying it on a test piece I decided that I didn't like it so threaded ribbon through instead.

Thank you all so much, I feel quite chuffed by all your wonderful comments. :D I will give it to them in a couple of weeks time as I have a few friends who want to see the finished result before I pass it on. Now I really must get on with starting the baby sampler I will be stitching Teddies and kittens from Dimensions and just adding the details after baby is born. I thought this be be suitable for a boy or a girl. Picture in a new thread soon
