Dogs - it's a finish!
This project is a photo of some of my parents dogs that I converted to a chart using Richards BlendThreads.
The original:
The mock up of the chosen chart:
The final piece will be 25x20cm, stitched on an 18ct Aida (Dusty Blue).
My initial goal was to stitch a pattern with a maximum of 100 colours. As you can guess, that didn't happen.
The current pattern has 114 stitch colours made of 134 floss colours. That is close enough for me. Quality matters too.
I really can't wait to see how the digital colours (as seen on my laptop screen) translate to the actual colours of the finished piece. So excited to start! (and actually a little scared too) Now waiting for the fabric to arrive...
For anyone interested in the details:
-floss range: DarkAdjusted DMC Cotton
-dithering: Floyd Steinberg
-max no colours 10x10sq: 52
-ave no colours 10x10sq: 19.3
-min no colours 10x10sq: 1

What a lovely picture you converted to cross stitch chart. Look forward to seeing it on here & watching it grow. It should be great when finished.

That is a fabulous picture of a pair of much loved dogs and the picture of the conversion looks spot on. Looking forward to watching this one grow.

Re: Dogs
A short update on the project: I started stitching on February 1, and really had to get used to the 18 ct fabric. Luckily it's going better now, although I still have some tension issues. Also I needed to experiment with needle sizes and brands, as the combination of needle and aida were hard on the floss.
Any advice is welcome...
As I am left handed, I started in the upper right corner of the chart and it turned out to be a very confetti heavy area.... not the best place to start, I discovered. So, when I got to the dog part, I decided to continue working on her (also because in a YouTube video someone advised to stitch the subject first, finishing with the surroundings, and that made sense to me).
Finishing off with some pictures to show the progress:

Re: Dogs
That is looking great so far.
I fear you will always get that sort of level of confetti with the program. It's a side-effect of the dithering routine.
Regards
Richard.

Re: Dogs
I do not blame the program for the amount of confetti. If I would do it again, with the knowledge I have now, I would either use an image editor to smooth the sky (less purple and green) and ground, or decrease the colour space divisions for those parts (but not for the dogs, as they need the amount of detail).
As I told my mum: the story behind the image makes it fun to work on the project, confetti heavy or not.

Re: Dogs
Great start! You have done well with some of the confetti already.
