Catching up...and trying to relax today! But I bought some Seville Oranges in the UK so today I'm making MARMALADE!! so yummy and it's impossible to get the bitter oranges here. So one good thing has come out of my visit.
At least I know that my dad is settled in a home and the staff there seem really caring. Now all I have to do is finish all the legal stuff, clear the house and get it sold to pay for his care....only a mammoth task but Wombats aren't shy of Mammoths!!
It must be nice to feel that the bulk of the job is done, and that your dad is in good hands.
It's strange the things you miss in a different country. Living in the UK after growing up in Germany (dad was in the army), I really miss the German 'Kartoffel Puffers', and gooseberry jam of all things. Can't seem to get anything like either in the UK.

Not quite yet. We still need to go through the house to make sure that there are no legal papers, documents or personal items. Dad's late wife's jewellery has to be found for her children. My dad refused to give it up after she died. Also the title deeds of the house are also missing, so we Have to go through Every box, cupboard and the roof space to make sure that we have missed nothing. Can't let house clearance in until.
Nothing in that house has Ever been thrown away. It's a nightmare.
OMG still lots to do but as the song goes 'at the end of a storm there's golden dawn' so keep your mind fixed on The End & the golden dawn to come. So many nooks & crannies & boxes to search through but hope you find the title deeds & jewellery soon for your own peace of mind & for your sanity. Hope you have some hair left at the end, as it is very frustrating for you as well as back breaking work. What an achievement it will be when finally done & dusted & you can get back to normal.
Perhaps you should get the Wombles involved to help, they like seeking out papers ffrom what I remember. They kept Wimbledon Common rubbish free Just think - Wendy Wombat & The Wombles - a real force to be reckoned with

Now that's really funny! When I'm knee deep in papers and magazines I shall remember that and
Made me laugh to, both very amusing. Hope things get sorted without too much more in the way of complications Wendy. You'll need a lie down & a few in he Stash & Grab by the time have finished. Good luck with the rest of it.

Welcome home!
I am the other way around : French living in UK. I put a liquor glass full of Cointreau in my Marmalade.

No no! You put GROUSE into the batch! You are supposed to DRINK the Glenmorangie whilst making the marmalade. *sheesh* There are a whole set of these.
I assume that isn't the same recipe Paddington uses (just saw Paddington 2 and loved it ). Wish we had transporters so I could hop over and taste what sounds like very tasty marmalade.
