That's gorgeous. Love the contrast of the bold colours against the delicate background :)

Thank you ladies. It is the gentle blossom colours & the dove which made me choose this geisha; I like the other colours too of course but thought if a different combination to several other geisha.

I am gridding fabric & then have threads to sort & chart to enlarge so will probably take me a further 7/10 days before I get to start stitching.

Thank you ladies. I have decided not to grid the whole fabric in one go. I started off thinking that but last night decided I would carry on until I have equal grid line cross ways & then do a few vertical After that I will do some as I go along. Maybe do a few more rows when I go to switch back to Periwinkle Cottage. At least they won't become tedious that way but I do need it gridded as I want to make sure I do keep exactly to the chart as I can.

The cottage one I was only able to mark vertical & horizontal lines in the middle as the chart is not well marked every 10 rows. I decided not to draw fine lines down the chart to make it easier to see them as there is a lot of back stitching on thatched roof. Most charts I can do that but this is a little more complicated even when enlarged. It's the first Anchor kit I have done.

Elegance of the Orient Dimensions - 1st few stitches

Post by daisymay »

First few evenings work done. I started in middle of chart which is on the silk wrap draped over geisha's arm & hangs down. On main kit pic this diamond shape is left of large pink flower on kimono.

Excellent start! And you are so wise to grid (something that’s defeated :ribbit: several times on my current piece).

Thank you Serinde. I much prefer gridding even though it takes time to do & is monotonous. I did not like stitching the Anchor cottage as I was unable to grid it satisfactorily. & I did have a few little frogs just after I'd started!! Was annoyed at myself for not taking a little more time. I had followed Anchor instructions by using the small squared chart as the spare one so I could see which stitches are done under the back stitching as there is quite a lot over the thatched roof. But it would have been better using the smaller squared chart, enlarging that in sections & then taking further enlargements of those sections; double enlarged in fact. This is the only kit I have ever seen that way round. Have used several others brands but never come across charts like this. Must remember on next Anchor kits.

Have 2 more Anchor ones, the kittens in a row is Anchor & another cottage one. Cottage & car design was a Penelope tapestry but now a cross stitch kit. I did have tapestry of that passed on to me when an older family member had a clear out as she was unable to crafts any more. As it had been stored so long it was very musty & woollen yarns not kept properly covered & they were dusty. So I was unable to complete it. I did not think it worth buying new yarns to re-use tapestry fabric as the musty smell was really strong.
