floss strands for 16 ct tent

Post by Sarakin621 »

Hi I am planning on starting a full coverage piece that I would like to use 16 ct aida, but I can't figure out how many strands of DMC floss to use if I do it in TENT stitch. I have tried 3 strands, and 4 strands. I think using a laying tool will come in handy for spreading the threads out.
Any suggestions? Thanks

I've never tried tent stitch on 16ct but I have used half cross stitch, which at the front should look the same - and I think it might be difficult to get full coverage whatever you use, unless it's a very "spready" thread. Have you considered trying wool?

I have never tried tent stitching on 16ct, though I have used it on 25 and 28 ct evenweaves. I prefer the coverage of 2 strands on 28 ct. I can't imagine that anything else than 3 strands would work on 16ct . Depending on how much confetti is in your design, 4 strands may be a bit bulky to handle. If there is a lot of confetti, make sure that when you test you do a few blocks that include confetti. Stitching will be different.
