Off to a wedding

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Our eldest's wedding, to be precise :-) - DH and I are both doing a reading, but fortunately the speeches are all done by brothers and friends *phew*

I have designed a little something to commemorate the wedding, but it will definitely be a when-you're back-from-honeymoon present! (And fortunately they don't go on their honeymoon until November  )

The wedding venue is literally five minutes' walk from our house :-)

It was a lovely wedding, the bride and groom were driven to the church by the groom's godfather (DH's cousin) in the family 1931 Lagonda, and DH & I travelled in the 1934 Austin Seven. The intention was for youngest to drive the two-seater Austin Seven but unfortunately it developed a fault the day before and was deemed too unreliable, as he was an usher and definitely needed to be at the church on time!

The bride was beautiful, DH had learnt to say the last verse of the Bible reading (1 Corinthians 13, the "love epistle") in Romanian which had her in tears. Great party afterwards, and I hope I'll have some pictures to show you later!

Glad everything went OK.

Saying a quotation in Romanian.. that's brave. Got to be careful so that dodgy pronunciation doesn't change the meaning.
I was in charge of the design of the box for the Beagle 2 Mars spacecraft, and we had to have lettering on the outside. Unknowingly we had a spelling mistake in the largest Russian characters on the box where someone had typed a character that was a bit like - but not exactly - the one that should have been there. Apparently it was not a word in Russian, but one further similar character substitution & it would have been quite rude.
We changed the letter as soon as we were told - deep embarrassment all round.

Regards,

Richard.
