Off to Ally Pally
Off to London tomorrow for my annual gallivant
I haven't got a stand at the Knitting & Stitching Show but I'll be teaching in the main workshop area on Thursday afternoon (1pm and 2.15pm) and on Friday afternoon (1.30pm) so if you're around do pop in and say hello!

Re: Off to Ally Pally
Have a good time. I hope you enjoy yourself.
I'll not be popping in. Last weekend I had my annual visit to London, visiting the London Writing Equipment Show. It has inoculated me against any desire to go inside the M25 for another year or two. Or three.
Regards,
Richard.

Hope you have a great day. Are you by any chance going to the Stitching show in Harrogate?
Re: Off to Ally Pally
So, Mabel, how did it go. How did your students get along? Did you manage to come home with more than you left with, stash-wise? Do tell!

Re: Off to Ally Pally
Back safe and sound, I had a lovely four days, much of which was spent walking around bits of London I hadn't been to before, like Golders Hill Park and the London Wetland Centre. A conservative estimate tells me I walked about 13 hours in those four days, not counting the time at the K&S Show My feet are just about beginning to recover...
The workshops went well; but I will have to tell the organisers that the workshop they asked me to do in one hour instead of 90 minutes was just too short - in future it's either 90 minutes or not at all.
Having said that, several people got quite a way with the projects, and I even had some completed cards in the Shisha class! One lady bought the other Shisha kit as well, finished both at home and is now using the technique on a Christmas quilted wall hanging. And a Dutch lady taking the RSN certificate came to do Hardanger because, she said, "I want to do something counted again!" You could tell she was an experienced stitcher in other techniques by the speed with which she took this up .
As for stash, no, I didn't get a lot. I found something fun for Stashmas, and after attending a walk-in demonstration in goldwork by Sarah from Golden Hinde, I did get some of the couching thread she recommended, so that my stash expenditure for myself amounts to a staggering £2.20
I did miss some of the independents - once again some smaller outfits or individual designers were missing . Speaking to one of the other tutors, she told me that even the small stalls in the hall mostly populated by designers/one-man bands/small businesses are about £1200 all things included. You have to sell a lot of skeins of hand-dyed thread or small kits or charts to even cover your expenses in that case. Some of the large stands in the big hall can apparently be £7000 or thereabouts
Anyway, here are some pics of finished projects that people have sent me:

Re: Off to Ally Pally
Wonderful very different Finished Projects by your pupils!
You did amazingly well, given the fact that the workshop was cut short of time.
It is a shame that the stands are so expensive to hire. It will kill the event, if they are not careful...

What can I say except 'I admire what you do enormously' and the way you share your knowledge is brilliant.

Thank you all. I'm not sure it's admirable, but it's great - I enjoy it, they enjoy it, and I get paid for it !

What an enjoyable experience. Seeing London as well as teaching at Ally Pally.
Your pupils have gained so much from you as I expect, you too, have gained!
