How do you hold your larger projects? Like HAED
I’m curious to know others methods. Mine is huuuuge. So I’m using a 10” hoop with the parts to the right and bottom rolled up and using two binder clips to hold up the excess fabric.

The largest project I stitched was 5x1.6 metres, I held it in hands, of course.

For the biggest pieces I use my 36" wide floor stand.
But this Dutch Beauty I did:
was too big even for that and had to be done side ways.

One of the reasons I only do projects that fit inside a hoop, or the "workable window" of a frame

Also I loose interest on big designs these days.

For O Kitten Tree, which is 350 x 343 I use a fairly large hoop. I think 10 inch diameter (25.4 cm?).
I put a grime guard around the hoop and fold the extra fabric under the guard:
Then I put a second grime guard around all of it:
I do the same with all my larger projects including my other active HAED, Dancing with the Cat 400 x 499
With the afghans I use a hoop for where I'm stitching and let the rest of the fabric spill over onto me, which is why I limit work on those to winter.
I've tried other methods and really wish I could stitch like Lyudmila does without anything to hold the project but I haven't been able to make that work.
As crazy as it seems I have never had a problem with the hoops leaving any marks on the fabrics and I am very bad about not removing a project from a hoop when I'm done stitching for the day. I leave the hoop on until I switch to a different project or am moving the hoop to stitch a new or expanded area of the design.

I put stuff in a 12" x 24" roller frame, but don't use a stand. I hold the frame upright in my left hand and stitch with my right. I start at the right hand side of the image, rolling the fabric around the right roller as time goes on. Rolling everything on to the right roller means it's kept cleaner and my hand doesn't crush the stitches. The tallest fabric I have used is 22" high.

I always use frames or hoops for my larger projects. HAEDs require so many changes of thread (or pre-threaded needles), that I wouldn’t be able to keep track of where I’m meant to be if I were working in hand. However, I have started to do hardanger in hand increasingly, as Yvette Stanton advocates (and Lyudmila, of course). Seems to work.
Re: How do you hold your larger projects? Like HAED
I may try this. Thanks for the idea. I have at least 2 grime guards for the Qsnap I’m using.

Im not the only one yay. Sometimes it’s been a month. Or more. Oddly enough I too haven’t had any problem getting hoop marks out. As for grime though I tend to wash my hands before every stitching session ever since I started (hopefully can keep out of reach of toddler). Back when playing old console games I always separated food from games so it carried to cross stitch.rcperryls wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 6:39 pm As crazy as it seems I have never had a problem with the hoops leaving any marks on the fabrics and I am very bad about not removing a project from a hoop when I'm done stitching for the day. I don't use the grime guards for grime as much as I use them to hold the fabric not being stitched. For some reason I can deal with all the extra fabric when stitching on afghan fabric, but with any of the evenweaves or linen, it drives me nuts. And since I usually have a drink somewhere close, especially ones prone to staining (coffee, tea, cranberry juice etc) extra protection helps.

No, it was at the time when I did not have a smart phone to take pictures whenever I wanted to. You just sit down on the bed or sofa, put a decent(large and thick) pillow behind your back(behind the pillow should be a wall or a back of the sofa) stretch your legs forward(so that they dont hang. Then your dog lies down along your leg and you spread the (in my case tablecloth) over your legs and the sofa and take the side of the fabric you need to work on into your left hand and work with the right one.The worst is when it comes to stitching the centre(far from everywhere).
