Students' work

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Not my own, but students' WIPs - so far they've been working on the Little Wildflower Garden, No Place Like Home, the Butterfly Wreath, and the Shisha Flower, and I am really proud of what they are achieving!

:applesauce: :applesauce: I hope they are getting really good grades for their work. I especially like the first and last rows, but that doesn't mean the ones in between are any less well done. Looking forward to seeing more!

One more project to go, a silk & gold flower - then a "sweep up" week where they can finish off anything they haven't finished, and ask questions and have stitches demonstrated etc. I'll also show some finishing methods; the kits all come with an aperture card, but it's nice to have options :-)

Wow, they are doing great!!

Is it hard to teach embroidery? I would think it could be difficult, but also very rewarding.

It's like teaching anything to a group of mixed ability, probably - give everybody the time they need, work out what sort of learner/stitcher they are (very careful vs happy to leave in mistakes, agile-fingered vs struggling with small needles, learning from diagrams vs learning by seeingme do it, doing it for fun vs serious about getting it "right" and so on), repeat everything as often as necessary, praise every achievement, correct them if that is what they want from the course (not a consideration when teaching teenagers who have to be at a class, as when I taught English back in the Netherlands :-) ) - and enjoy seeing them be amazed at what they are creating!

It's the end of the course, and I am so proud of what my students achieved in a mere six classes! The last class wasn't even a class as such, it was for them to finish up any projects they had left and to ask questions; this led to my demonstrating battlement couching and raised chain stitch. Here is a final selection of the work they brought into class or did during that last wrap-up:

:applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: Not surprised by how lovely these pieces are, considering who the teacher is! These students are more than welcome here also. Lovely projects!

They have all done wonderfully well. I do love the white 4 petal design and it is especially brilliant on the red fabric. Well Done to all and I am sure you are very proud of all their work. :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop:
