Re: 2024 The Smile for Today
One guy I went to school with was named (by sadistic parents, I always thought) 'Tudor StJohn' pronounced 'Tudor Sinjin'.

Ha, parents have a lot to answer for
A friend of my cousin's was called (first & last name) Godelieve Engelenhere, which although individually perfectly normal names (though not particularly common) together translate as Beloved of God Lord of Angels.

Re: 2024 The Smile for Today
Could push them either way.
Possibly forcing them to be a saint, or to rebel and be as bad as they can.
It's dangerous naming a child. Got to imagine a whole range of possible nicknames that could be made from the names as well as the initials or any combination of the two. So, naturally, our two have nicknames of 'Poops' and 'Nana', both largely unrelated to any of their names or initials - which sort-of fits the plan as it means nothing horrible has been invented from their names.
Regards,
Richard

Re: 2024 The Smile for Today
Our sons have no embarrassing initials and to my uncertain knowledge have no unhappy-making nicknames. I'm a firm believer that children know their own names when they are born, and we more or less got it right (with the exception of YS's middle name, which he hates and won't use; pity, since it's my father's name, but hey ho, can't win them all).

The comments are a bit harsh (but the person from Michigan had it right; true also for Illinois); I've also encountered the same here in Scotland)! Total fellow-feeling when she thought about and rejected the whole idea of getting up!

I think the dog should be looking over his shoulders for awhile.

Re: 2024 The Smile for Today
I would just love to know how enthusiastic the kitten's eating was to make that much mess... Must have been hilarious to watch.

Re: 2024 The Smile for Today
You may remember I have a sheep-mad friend. Today a mutual friend alerted her on FB to the existence of the "sea sheep", or leaf sheep sea slug. Definitely made me smile! (and wonder whether you could make one in stumpwork....)

A 'Shaun the Sheep' wearing camouflage to make him look like a hedge prior to organising an escape...
Never knew they existed.

I need to admit I did not believe they existed but:
