Well, after soaking in oxiclean and detergent and then washing, it's not sticky. The ugly line is still there, but I think I can stitch over it. I'll find out...eventually.

Thanks for all your support. It means a lot. Wish I could get real hugs sometimes! I'll keep my other grumbles to myself for now (bf and other stupid stuff). 8) :)

Victory! :x: that once you've stitched over it you won't see a thing. And remember that even if you can still see a ghost of a line, other people most likely won't because they don't know it was there!

I agree completely!! And remember that we won't tell a soul since probably many (maybe all) of us (I know I have) have stitched over all sorts of unfortunate occurences. Your eye might go straight there, but no one else's will.

The stitching is so thick i'm not worried about covering the line.
I agree that 2 threads doesn't work on 25ct. It barely works on 22ct, and my stitches look wonky, but it's ok. I'm glad I went with 1 over one on 25 ct with Sunflower Bee. Kind of wish I had done that on the others. lol

I'm here drinking decaf :coffee: whiling away the long wait for news on my older sister's neck surgery. It's very complex and high risk, but necessary. Could be fine; could go entirely pear shaped. Once I finish the ironing (over there in the corner where the light is good), I intend to do a bit of stitching that requires concentration -- Algerian eyelets -- but not a lot of technical ability.

Hope all goes well for your sister, Serinde - and that you can find something to occupy your mind and fingers in as pleasant a way as possible. Would a mulled wine help, or do you need to stay alert?

:x: for good news.

The :coffee: pot is self filling and there are some little ginger biscuits I made earlier for those necessary calories (anxiety needs feeding!)

Well, she's out of surgery, and it went well. Now the next four days or so are critical -- they'll try to get her home ASAP to minimise infection risk. (Not that her house is antiseptically clean  , but the germs are "hers" at it were, and not the likes of, say, MRSA, I guess.) So :wine: all round, barkeep!

Good news! (It's slightly worrying to think our homes are more hygienic than a hospital... still, your explanation makes sense, our bodies are used to our own germs :-) , and come to think of it hospitals are full of sick people so it stands to reason home is safer!)

Oh my goodness I missed this. Hope your sister has a full recovery. Home is the best place to recuperate if you can so it's good she didn't have to stay hospitalized too lone.
If the winter weather gets a bit chilly while you are waiting for more news I recommend an Irish Coffee at our wonderful pub , with lots of whip cream on top, or if you don't want even virtual liquor I'd probably go for a beautiful latte.
It's hard when family members are far away having medical treatments. My younger (and ferociously independent)sister is going through some chemo for a cancer that was caught very early. We love on opposite coasts.

It is hard, being so far away and not being around to help (a continent or an ocean; distance about the same, I suspect). However, in my case, both daughters and my other sister are there, so that's good. At the moment, I'm doing my bit by trying to source a Lowery stand for her -- the idea is that it's possible to sit quite upright and stitch with a Lowery, whereas other floor stands require a certain amount of neck and body bending which probably isn't going to be possible. She loves her stitching! All suggestions gratefully received!

 I know exactly about being so far away. I can't help with a Lowery but I can send healing thoughts to your sister. She will be better off at home recovering gently.
All good wishes to her. :rose: :rose:

Serinde,

Everything will be fine. Stop worrying(I know you wont, but at least try) and stitch her a nice ornament or card, or knit/crochet some toy to distract yourself at least a little. My best wishes to your sister too. :rose: :rose:

I got my Lowry stand several years ago when Parksfarm was looking for one also. At that time the least expensive place, including shipping, was from So and Sew. And it didn’t take very long to arrive. Lots might have changed since then but if you are finding that the cost seems higher getting it from a US supplier I wouldn’t spend too much time trying to find one.

@Carole: thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I have asked the UK company to suggest US distributors, but no answer yet. The state of the £sterling might have an impact, of course...

Thank you all for your concern and support. I'm not nearly as worried as I was on Wednesday!! She's recovering well, and hopes to leave hospital tomorrow, I think. Much depends on physiotherapy set ups, medications, etc, of course. But she's quite cheerful, and (I'm told) the double neck brace make her look like a very greedy chipmunk. Perhaps I can find a chipmunk design... 8) :thinks:

Anyway, the coffee is hot and there are extra :cake: because it's St Andrews Day!
