rcperryls wrote:Band 4 is actually 3 different stitches. They are so similar and so close to each other that it gives it this amazing textured effect. I think, to be honest, it would look just as good using DMC as the HDF threads. Though I don't know how two strands of DMC would be compared to the single strand of HDF. :thinks: Maybe at a later date I will try it. The next band is plain cross stitches but after that is several specialty stitches again. Hard to resist isn't it??? Wouldn't it be fun if you did this too? not that I would ever think of suggesting that you think about adding this to your stash or worse yet to your rotation

I definitely will be keeping it in mind---I could sub in some of the dinky dyes oops and other silks etc so it is doable

Now if you started this and Karen did it would be just like any other SAL. And anyone else thinking about it too, of course. (and whenever Amanda posts too since I think she got this started)
not that I am encouraging anyone, because I'm not that kind of stitcher. What is also great about this is that it has little finishes (each band completed) and easy "starts" (each new band) so good to do between other WIPs.

They've released a cross stitch only version now aswell. This is better for me as every other thing I have tried with special stitches in has gone nowhere because of the need to concentrate on the stitches.

Taking a bit longer as I get towards the middle of the piece but I am soooo enjoying this. Will probably be my week-end stitching until its done. Band 5 is the cross stitch band. I love the way she alternates the specialty stitches with the cross stitches. Unfortunately (for my pocket book) I also love the way the HDF silk thread looks and feels. (I'm so tempted to start the Fleur de Lys SAL as I have several variegated HDF threads for that one.)

Thanks for looking. Now to finish that pesky little bottom corner in Mini Shiver Meow Timbers!

One thing I really like about stitching this, Dana, is that each band completed is its own little finish and it is easy to pick up on the week-end as a HAED break from confetti. I have found the directions for the specialty stitches easy to follow also. You stitch faster than I do so I would love to see you start and get a bit ahead of me so I can see how it is going to look. hint hint

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

I love this more with every update. It's still on my wish list...and if I wasn't trying really, REALLY hard to stick with the Stitch from Stash challenge, it would be here with me.
