Clan of the Cave Bear....there's a blast from the past. I should re-read the series.

Wonder how important that 5% is going to be in the future?

If you liked Clan of the Cave Bear, you should seek out Marion Campbell's The Dark Twin (apparently very popular in the US). I keep loaning out my copy, and it never returns. So must buy another.

The synopsis of the book is weird.
Hmm. Not sure.

I've read all but the latest as after I read reviews I decided to stop at the Shelters of Stone No 5.
Such an enjoyable series.

I no longer have the series as they were another casualty of the move from France as we're a good number of things we ended up leaving behind. :tantrum:

I feel your pain - I still miss certain books I left behind in the Netherlands when coming here, and then didn't bring back when we cleared out Mum's apartment. We had to do it in little over a month, so the decision-making process as to what I wanted to keep was rather rushed. Oh well, if I remember the books-that-got-away inaccurately, it doesn't matter as long as I enjoy the memories :-)

One of the things that I have done, though not recently, is to check on used copies of books I remembered loving, but no longer have. How they get lost, given away, destroyed or suffered some unknown end I don't know. There are used book sites that I have found that have fairly inexpensive replacements. It's been a long time since I've gone that route, but I remember that being a real treasure hunt. Sometimes it involved favorite children's books that I wanted to share with my grandchildren. My granddaughter is a librarian and it's fun to share older books. I had a huge collection at one time of children's books that were passed down from my aunt who had given them to a cousin who gave them to my sister and me and then we gave them to her daughter when she was old enough to appreciate them. I really don't know what has become of them. The ones I'm thinking of are "Honey Bunch" books. I'll have to check that out with her. I had completely forgotten about them. Written in the 1920's.

Holding the very book an ancestor treasured is a very special feeling, a very special link to them. Such links are stronger than steel, as ephemeral as mist, but also at the root of who we are. It's not only genes that make people, they are also forged by the stories they live. Books play a key part and become woven into the stories that make us all.

Richard.

Indeed this is so, Richard. One of my all-time favourite books, which I probably read first about aged 10, was by Henry Adams, Mont St Michel and Chartres. I have no idea how often I've re-read it over the years, and then, having inscribed it, she gave it to me. A treasured possession.

But I can't tell you HOW LONG it took to track down the edition of Terry Jones' Fantastic Stories that had the all-time best tale in it: "Nicobobinus and the Doge of Venice". Legendary in this household. Just don't try to read "The Snow Baby" out loud without a handkerchief at the ready.

I'm here for a celebratory drinkie - Mabel has become the official sponsor of a stitch in the RSN Stitch Bank
It's a great resource with so far 200 stitches (but they are continually adding more) all with a description, step-by-step photographs and a video.

Not really an achievement Wendy - it is open to anyone who would like to support it, from donating five pounds to sponsoring a stitch - but I am happy to be part of this project!

Well done, the Fancy's "team"! Sponsoring a stitch is really helpful, especially as the site is open to everyone -- none of it is behind a paywall. :applesauce: :applesauce:

I wanted Mabel in there, and I had a feeling they would question the validity of the name Mabel Figworthy on its own :-)

Yes, Serinde, one of the things I really like about it is that it is very much a public service which anyone can access. And if the sponsorship matches their ambition, it is going to be a very comprehensive resource indeed.

What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. :tea: Cheering Bruce (and Mabel). Especially on a cold and dreary day here.

What a perfect way to celebrate Mabel's and Bruce's upgrade.
May I have another glass of Lindisfarne Mead please?

I suppose I really ought to have an Australian beer :-) but I think I'll stick with the last of the mulled wine. Thank you all for the party!
