The Beeb was today posting about cats playing fetch: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67719709

I can confirm all of this year's Robins have learnt how to play fetch and at least two of them know how to request I play the game with them: they stand on the back of one of my garden chairs nearest to the doors, bobbing up and down until they attract my attention and then when I come out they point with their beaks as to where they want their pellets to be thrown (left or right is different territories so I know who it is  but the rule is no fighting with other Robins or they get no pellets ). I know that in a warm autumn weather they want three pellets to be thrown but if the weather turns cold four or at worst five pellets at a time.

By the end of spring I hope that a few of the Dunnocks will have learnt to play fetch as well as the Chaffinches. I have never yet worked out why it is always the female Chaffinches that play fetch and not their fellas. My father has never forgotten that one year one very friendly Chaffinch landed on the table and started heading towards his sandwiches, which I explained to him his sandwiches were positioned where I normally left her food, so she thought her luck was in :D

Playing these sorts of games with our Siamese was less "fetch" as "keep".

Our Ozzie loves a game of chase with his tinsel balls. He doesn't often bring it back, but loves racing around after it. He is very particular about the one he plays with too. Sometimes Orianna lines 4 or 5 up and he'll chose the one he plays with with a little nuzzle or bat. If we throw a different one, he'll ignore it, waiting for the one he's chosen.

Regards,

Richard
