:D Green Mountain Boys bring me up to 3/10! Love the information about them. Coolidge is one of those presidents that most people know (Silent Cal) but know nothing about. Now I at least know where he was born.

Today's numbers are 17 and 34.

17. Vermont Teddy Bear http://www.vermontteddybear.com/" target="_blank

Vermont Teddy Bear (VTB) was founded in 1983 by John Sortino. At the time he was selling handcrafted bears in an open-air market in Burlington, Vermont. A customer asked for a bear to be mailed, and that gave him the idea for Bear-Grams. These feature the teddy in a box, complete with air holes and some goodies inside and sent anywhere in the U.S or Canada. Unfortunately they don't ship internationally at this time.

There are 2 factories, one in Shelburne, VT and the other in Newport, VT. The factory in Shelburne is a big tourist attraction and is a fun place to visit. Almost all bears are made in the U.S., only the specialty designs are partially crafted elsewhere and then return to the U.S. factories to be inspected and stuffed. The Vermont Teddy Bear is one of the few teddies you can find with all movable parts, and they have 100% lifetime guarantee. When we were on tour the guide said even if you can find one piece of the bear after it went through a lawn mover (for example) and send it in, they will send you a new bear. And if your teddy just needs a little tender care, they have a teddy bear hospital at the factory to fix up your teddies.

Here's a few photos from our trip last year.

34. Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium http://www.fairbanksmuseum.org/" target="_blank

The Fairbanks Museum was founded in 1889 by Franklin Fairbanks, an industrialist located in St. Johnsbury, VT. His goal was to welcome all of New England to see beyond their local environment and he brought in examples of natural science and artifacts from around the world. In 1961 Vermont's only public planetarium opened as part of the Fairbanks museum as well. And since 1981 the Eye on the Sky weather broadcast out of the Fairbanks Museum plays on Vermont Public Radio and gives great, accurate weather for the region.

The museum building went up in 1890 and was designed by architect Lambert Packard. The main building is called a "triumph of Victorian architecture" and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of 2008. Their collections include 75,000 natural science specimens (mounted birds, animals, fossils, herbarium, etc.), 95,000 historical artifacts (toys, textiles, weapons, etc.), and 5000 ethnological items representing North America, Oceania, the Near East, Africa, Egypt and Japan.

I've never been there since it's about 3 hours away, but some friends have taken the trip and really enjoyed it. Someday...

This is a photo from their website of the interior of the main gallery:

:applesauce: :applesauce: I'll give Vermont Teddy Bears (which are really quite famous in the U.S. and Canada) another YAY! So I'm up to 4/10. I knew there was a reason I love Teddy Bears. If I win this Bingo I might just have to order one.

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying the bingo so far!! And it seems to be a pretty close race too, so it's very interesting to see where everyone's at.

Today's numbers are 3 and 18.

3. ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center http://www.echovermont.org/" target="_blank

ECHO stands for Ecology, Culture, History and Opportunities for stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin. ECHO states their mission is to "educate and delight" people of all ages about the diverse nature of Lake Champlain. They were founded in 2003 and are located right on the Burlington, VT waterfront. They offer daily animal encounters and hands-on activities that are acceptable for all ages.

They have over 150,000 visitors every year, and it's a great place to visit to learn more about Lake Champlain. They had one display of an invading species, zebra mussels, and 3 bicycles and they had left each bike in the lake for a different amount of time. Obviously, all the oil, etc. was removed from the bikes first. Even in just a day there were an amazing number of zebra mussels covering the bikes, and the one that had been immersed for 2 weeks was completely covered! All in all a neat place to visit.

18. Vermont Lake Monsters http://vermont.lakemonsters.milb.com/" target="_blank

The Vermont Lake Monsters are a farm team for the Oakland Athletics. They play in the Short Season A New York-Penn league, and just a few years ago were a farm team for the Montreal Expos, and were known as the Vermont Expos, but after the Montreal team got shipped to Washington, the Vermont team changed their name. Most fans in Vermont cheer for the Boston Red Sox or the New York Yankees, but Montreal is closer than both those cities, so being the farm team made sense at the time.

Their mascot is Champ, the legendary lake monster of Lake Champlain, so I like their name change. I've never been to a game as I'm not a big baseball fan, but I've seen people wearing their merchandise, so it's a fairly popular activity.

Here's a shot of Champ!

Nothing for me today. I love Champ. I have seen several tv shows about the Lake Champlain monster. Documentaries they call them even if it is on shows like "Monster Quest". The legends are interesting. I love when they show you the way out of focus photos and videos to "prove" the monsters are real. Kind of like Big Foot. I strayed. I also found the Aquarium and Science Center info interesting. Often it is the smaller museums which are the most fun. We have been to several and if I am ever in Vermont, I will definitely try to include the ECHO Center as a must go to see place.
