What an atmospheric picture, that will be lovely to stitch!

The title seems to say that it is Kiev (sorry I can't do the Cyrillic spelling) - what does Stariy mean (if I've got the letters right)?

The picture shows St. Mykhailo's Monastery.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Micha ... _Monastery
During the Revolution of Dignity when police special force ("Berkut") was breaking the Maidian, the bells of this monastery let know the whole city what was going on and hundreds of thousands came to defend the heart of the Revolution. The monastery was the only church in Kyiv who opened its gate to let in the people that were chased by the Berkut and monks were defending the monastery against the armed police, then they were looking after the wounded. So this monastery is a sacred place for every Ukrainian patriot now.
The kit I was going to stitch has never arrived, and now I am glad it has not, as I absolutely like this picture. The wavy lines on the sides are made of "gold" wire. My GD will do this job for me as she is a future designer and architect, so she can do it better than I.

Thank you for giving us the back story! You've made a great start. Aren't you even slightly tempted to have a go at the gold thread yourself :-) ?

A very interesting picture, very different from your last piece.
I can see why you wanted to stitch this one. An important subject which deserves to be reproduced in stitches. 8)

Wendy, in reality everything is more simple. The next (July) birthday "kid" had to choose something else as the picture he wanted first, cannot be stitched as the shops do not have the kit. So this time I first checked the shops, then showed the person 10 pictures - he chose this at once.

You’re making good progress on this, and the history behind the monastery is interesting. I can understand why this one was chosen and I’m sure every stitch will have special meaning.

In reality, the horses and the cab look already like in a photo. That's what I like Charivna Myt(Magic Moment) for. It never fails.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Beautiful progress! There is a real elegance to this piece (I don't know if that is the right word to describe what I mean but I can't think of a different adjective so I will stick with that one)

It's a very good word - perhaps it's the way the lines (trees, roof lines, etc.) all work together to lead the eye pleasantly around all the parts of the design.
