Got a bit more done on the horse
The first picture shows the tail as it was left last July, the second shows the cutwork on the main part of the tail (upside down, to show the side of the cutwork that is otherwise not very visible) and the third the completed tail.

And because of course I need another project  I've started this stumpwork butterfly for a friend who is shielding. The isolation is getting to her at times, and she told me that to keep her spirits up she looks at every butterfly as a little message from God that there are blessings even at this time. So I thought why not make her a permanent butterfly? It's going to be loosely based on a painted lady, which I know she is fond of.

I had some paper-covered wire left from the Sarah Homfray butterfly kit, and I'll sort of follow the same instructions only with a slightly different shape and different colours (that was a holly blue). I'm hoping to make a good start tonight!

Not as much progress as I'd have liked, but I attached the butterfly base and the wire, and made a start on the first wing. More tonight I hope!

Not yet :-) - but I hope it will be. I intend to mount it on a piece of gardening wire, so it can be stuck in a flower pot and wave about.

We have a wing! I'm finding it takes quite a bit of concentration so not really the best thing to do in the evening; I hope to take advantage of daylight hours over the weekend.

What a very kind thought!
I love looking at the butterflies flitting about in the garden at this time of year.
That painted lady is going to give your Dear Friend such a boost! :applesauce: :applesauce:

I remember once saying to D/H that the grass was covered in blue flowers and he couldn't mow for a few days. We went up to look and suddenly the 'flowers' took off. They were tiny blue butterflies!!

Thank you for the photo of the embroidery inspector. At last I realized why I fell in love with your cat, Mabel- her colouring is exactly as of the cats from my childhood. It is very aristocratic. And yes, the butterfly is perfect as always.

The Embroidery Inspector's gonna inspect. Lovely flutterby. Will it have antennae?

It will; I have none of the black wire from the kit left, so will filch the wire from a sandwich bag closer and take a Sharpie to it :-)

The Holly Blue had beads for eyes but I found those rather too prominent, so may do something different here. I'm also trying out new things with the buttonhole edge - I'm having a lot of fun with this, and I'm beginning to love it so much I don't really want to give it away! But I suppose that means it's a good gift; if I didn't mind about giving it away, it might not be up to scratch...

By the way, just as a reminder this was the original Holly Blue from the Sarah Homfray kit:
