New project Janlynn Elephant - Finished!

Post by Fljotsdale »

This is an old kit I've had for years, on 14ct, so it should be quick. It's to do while I'm finishing the tapestry, which I can only do for very short periods, and I HAVE to have something else to stitch, but not a major project.
I have sorted all the threads today, and it's ready to start - but no pic yet. I looked for a pic of the kit on the net, but no joy. It IS old! I'll photograph the kit pic and stuff and put it on tomorrow.

Here is the kit pic. From the pic I can see that the original was stitched on linen or evenweave, but the kit is on 14ct aida. I would have preferred it on linen, actually: it gives a better look to the unstitched areas than aida.

Stuff.

What I did today; not a lot, but I didn't have much time. :) There is a lot of blending.

Thanks for your encouraging comments, Jaki, vanessa, and Mabel! :D

They are not actually q-snaps, Karen, but an English version, and not identical. I think probably just dissimilar enough not to violate copyright! Actually, I find them more convenient in some ways, and less so in others - for one thing, you have to hold the frame, not a seperate bar above the frame, as in my wood frames; this means I am holding the fabric, which means more likely to get soiled; also, it hurts my wrist more. On the plus side, I am not limited in the size of fabric I can use 'em with, which is going to be fantastic with my upcoming 'My Dragon' and 2 HAEDs! I won't have to use the floorstand frame!

Oh--they do look quite similar--and I agree with you on the drawbacks on them--I invested in a snuggie type of thing for my larger set---so it wraps around the frame and keeps your extra fabric encased in it--if that makes sense--I think a couple of the forum members have made them as well--and it really does help keep the cross stitch fabric cleaner. As for holding the frame, that is a bit tricky--I find with my larger one, the 11 inch square one, that I usually end up with the bottom of the frame propped against my tummy  :)

I prop the small one on my chest, and the 17" x 11" one on my tummy!

Just noticed the link! Thank you! But I think I could probably make one of those myself - they are a good idea. :D

Oh that should be a nice one to work on. Lots of big blocks of color so you can get into a nice rhythm.

Lovely project, enjoy it!

Actually, I think I saw somewhere a tutorial for making these covers but can't remember where. Does anyone happen to know? I would love to make one, too.

Edit. Found it.

Did this yesterday. You can now see one eye, and I have reached the top of his head and one ear.

This is a lovely kit, FD, and you've made a great start. I really like Janlynn and have done a few of their projects before. Looking forward to your next update.
