Another proud mom :)

Post by agi »

I feel so happy, I need to boast about it
My daughter got accepted to the university. What is more, this is the course she wanted the most: the best university in Hungary, a BA course in ethnography. And she had much more points than the acceptance limit
This is really a great thing for me, because when she finished her secondary school, she didn't want to study at all, in spite of the fact that she was one of the best students in her year. It was a kind of rebellion against us, against the adult world. I was so sad about it, but couldn't convince her. Now, after working for 3 years, she sees the point of studying. And this is an area that really interests her.

Better that she does these things in her own time, and really knows what she wants to do. Congratulations to Daughter (and to Mum, too, of course, for being patient!)

Congrats! I imagine a three years taste of the real world was one hell of a motivational course for an intelligent young person. Good for her.

I wish I'd been as smart and as brave as your daughter!

I went to university straight out of secondary school, and while I enjoyed it, I really didn't know what I was doing there and didn't love the courses that much. I went because my grades said I should. Now, 15 years later I'm back in school getting a PhD and doing what I absolutely love ... in a totally different field then my BA was in.

I applaud your daughter for waiting till she knew what she really wanted. The experience will be so much more meaningful to her now. I wish her all the very best luck with her studies!!

I am thrilled to read that your daughter is to study a course that really interests her. So often people go straight to uni studying the subjects that their teachers may have unwittingly pushed them into. This does not really take into account the fact that people quite often change drastically in those few years and may end up hating the chosen subject.

Working for 3 years will have helped her to mature and really value time so will be less likely to waste any of her uni time.

Well done to you and your daughter.

Great news!

Count me in as another who went to college straight out of high school not having any idea what I wanted to do. Lots of wasted time and money doing that.

You've every right to boast - what wonderful news, and a great achievement being accepted into the best University! It's probably done her the world of good taking the time out and going back to studying now - she knows what she wants to do and will have a more mature head on her shoulders, so she's more likely to buckle down and study hard, meaning she'll do better than she would have done straight out of school. Brilliant! :applesauce:
