I notice that a few people here have blogs on blogspot and I was going to try it for a different blog but to do so you need a google account and that requires you to give them your mobile number to complete the process??

Is it just me or is this getting way to Big Brother like?? Needless to say I didn't sign up!

Is that from Blogger of Google? Because, that's odd, I just created a blog, and nowhere did it ask for a mobile number.
Just think, not everyone has one, so it would be ridiculous to demand one for creating a blog. Maybe it has something to do with each country? I dunno...

Right, so I just went to see if I could create a Gmail account, to see if there is somewhere where it says something about a mobile number, and nothing, I don't see it anyhwhere.So, I'm guessing it may have something to do with the country...

Seems that it is only in certain countries you have to give your mobile number to be able to sign up for a blog there . Step too far for me.

I think it might have to do with counter-terrorism. The July 7th bombers used gmail accounts to plan the bombings, and I suppose if you have to put in your phone number to make an account there is more info avail able to track criminals down. Then again, it's not hard to get a sim card in this country, not like you have to register or anything.

Can I suggest that instead of a blogger blog you have a look at http://wordpress.com/? It's very user friendly, you can make is as simple or as complicated as you'd like yourself

I just created another wordpress one - had just fancied Blogger for a wee change.

How unusual, I never had to use my mobile number :S

I never had to use mine either.

Wordpress doesn't ask for anything like that and is very simple to use with loads of extras for choice.
