Chinese Zodiac-Year of the Rooster redo finished

Post by Pengwenn »

I've wanted to stitch bookmarks for everyone in my extended family as a Christmas gift but I don't think everyone likes to read as much as I do. I got this pattern booklet a while ago and thought I could do these instead but the though of framing them all was daunting.

Image

I ran across some unfinished wooden picture frames the other day that I thought might be the perfect size. The only problem was I hadn't stitch up any of these little guys to test them out to make sure. And the frames were on sale for $1. I sat down and figured out how many of each I would have to do and picked one to get started on. Turns out I have to do every one except the Year of the Horse. Apparently my family doesn't have anyone born in those years. All total it's 22 of them (including one for myself).

They're actually not that hard. Finished size is about 3x5 inches. I'm going to add the person's name and year of their birth as well. I finished the Year of the Rabbit (for my dad) except the name and date (need to find a good font style for that) and I'm going to take it to the store to make sure it will fit in the frame. If it does I'll buy all the frames I can find. It will be my Christmas gifts for 2012.

Image

I have to do 3 Rats, 3 Dragons, 1 Monkey, 1 Ox, 3 Snakes, 1 Rooster, 2 Tigers, 2 Dogs, 1 Rabbit, 4 Sheep and 1 Pig. I'm doing them all on 14 count Aida 2 over 1. If I can get the frames I'll personalize them for each person like favorite color or something. Haven't figured out that part yet.

They will make great gifts! Thinking about how many you have set yourself to do - I would suggest doing for closest family first, so that if you run out of steam, at least you have the most important done! Hope the frames fit. :) :shamrock:

I finished the next one. I did Year of the Rat on pale pink (which doesn't show well in the scan) 14 ct Aida 2x1. I have to do 3 of these ones (2 for girls, 1 for a boy). When I do the one for my nephew I'm going to change the colors to shades of gray so I can stitch it on blue fabric. I'm actually a little disappointed in the fabric. It looks pink in the packaging and when it's next to something white, but it looks white everywhere else. I was hoping it would look a little more pink since it's for a girl. Maybe when I paint the frame I can do something to make it look more pink. I started working on a Snake last night.
