I also wet the ends of the thread in my mouth when it slips out of the needle midway through stitching. By then it usually has acquired some cat hair as well, so if I get murdered and they decide to do an autopsy I'm sure I'd cause some puzzled faces
As for the original question, I'm definitely a dangler, but I also find that railroading helps -- makes the stitches lie nice and flat and keeps them from knotting (in combination with some judicious dangling, of course)
(And no, I can't tell you what injudicious dangling is like...)
