I take a picture of my stitching on my cell phone before I go to bed from far away... so I can lay in bed and stare at it and compare it to the original picture and ensure it looks nice and flat and tidy from another perspective

1. Before I started reading through this forum yesterday, I thought I knew a lot of stitching. WRONG!! Never heard of parking, HAED, using multiple needles on the same project, the term "confetti"--oh, so many things I have to learn here!

2. I've always been pretty fussy about keeping the backs of my projects neat. I thought everyone did (it was the way I was taught), until I was working at Michaels and backstitching a Xmas project for my mom while in the breakroom. The girl from the framing dept. was sitting across from me, and was stunned to see the back of my piece. "OMG, that looks just like the front!!" Um, isn't it supposed to? "No, you should see what we get to frame--threads crossed every which way!" Ever since then, I've been rather overly proudful of my neat backs. It's hubris and not very nice, but it's me.

3a. While working at Michaels (this was in 1991-92), I accummulated a HUGE stash of kits, which I've only just finished working on last year! Now, I'm making my way through the huge stash of patterns I started buying after I left Michaels and started making some decent money.

3b. I don't mention to my family members how much I spend on patterns and materials, although I'm always looking to get things on sale as much as possible. My mom has an AC Moore store near her, which I don't, so when she called last weekend to tell me they were having a DMC floss sale (4 for $1), I sent her my list for my next project (a Scarlet Quince map), which needed the purchase of 160 skeins. Saved me lots of money--yay!

4. I've got a stash of finished pieces sitting on a hanger in my closet. I have to get them ironed and to the framers as soon as I can afford it. I've never framed anything I've done in the past ten years, so there are a lot of them waiting.

5. I do lick my floss before threading. How else do you make it pointy enough, especially if you're working with beads? (I've never used a needle threader.)

6. I haven't used a hoop in over 20 years. Love my scroll bars, but just ordered my first Q-snap since the SQ patterns I'll be working on for the next several years are too big for my 18-inch bars.

I don't care about backs. I'm also a shader - I colour in the squares on the pattern that I have already stitched with a highlighter so I don't get lost.

I have two floor stands and seven hoops/scroll frames with two projects actually in progress.

I go through stash spurts where I buy patterns, cloth, floss, etc. (often trying to hide them from my wife)

I look for something new when I go on a business trip or vacation.

I have five floss cadies, and tend to be meticulous in organizing my supplies.

Completely and totally illogical. It is amazing how different companies look at things.

I'm really loving this thread!! I've been stitching for years and I've learned so much from reading all the responses! Here's some of my confessions:

1. I put the wrong birthdate on my daughters birth announcement project.

2. Sometimes I like to get out all of my kits, supplies, and goodies and just look at them.

3. I hate stitching on black!

4. I have a project that's been sitting in a scroll frame for so long, un-touched, that it's dusty.

5. I only stitch things I'm going to keep.

6. Most of my finished projects are in a box because I'm too lazy to frame them.

7. I hate to shop on-line...I like to touch the stuff I'm buying...that sounds a little creepy :thinks:

8. Sometimes I'm so into my stitching that people have to repeat themselves because I literally don't hear them.

I'm enjoying this thread so much, I might as well post my confessions.

I really enjoy sorting and organizing my stash, magazines, WIPs, UFOs, design ideas, etc. I put them in neat piles on the bed in the guestroom (which is where I have my clothes closet and chest of drawers). Then I proceed to put clean laundry on top of everything, followed by the clothes I wore yesterday and "thought" I would wear again soon--so why bother to hang them up? This is followed by more stitchy stuff which is put on the appropriate pile (if I can find it)! And then some jeans that need to be hemmed, etc., etc., etc. It is very discouraging, but also kind of funny. Luckily, we only have houseguests about once every 3 years. . . but I do clean off the bed more frequently than that! Then the whole cycle begins again. . . .

sometimes I pay more attention to how the back looks then how the front looks.

I have a half finished project hidden away because there is a huge mistake that needs to be pulled and I dont want to fix it but cant leave it. I also dont want to restart it on new fabric.

I lose at least 2 needles per project, more for bigger projects.
