BINGO - Les Couleurs DMC - rcperryls is our winner!

The DMC company originated in France in 1746; it was founded by three gentlemen, Jean-Henri Dollfus, Jean-Jacques Schmalzer and Samuel Koechlin, and originally produced hand-painted fabrics that were very popular at the time. At the end of the 18th century Dollfus's nephew Daniel took over the company and after he got married to Anne-Marie Mieg, he added her name to the company, thus creating DOLLFUS-MIEG & Compagnie (DMC).
In 1850 while studying in England their grandson discovered the invention of John Mercier (mercerizing), and brought the process back to the factory, where the first threads of mercerized cotton were created.
Ever since then, the family's motto is still in use and incredibly appropriate to the business: TENUI FILO MAGNUM TEXITUR OPUS, in plain English ''from a simple thread a work of art is born''.

I thought I would theme this bingo around the lovely names that DMC has given to some of their colors. Please pick 10 numbers from the list below and pm me with your choices before Monday June 18 at midnight GMT, and the game itself will start on Tuesday.
I hope you enjoy!
Maud

Great idea! I used to work for a big fabric store (was there for several years) as the shipping/receiving manager. I really had to learn and know my stuff. DMC was part of that, and it is neat to see that others are interested in the history. Brought back memories of working there when I read the intro post... loved that job, but it didn't pay well.

PM'ing my numbers now. :)

I think I will join in....I'm a sucker for bingo........and for DMC......and for hand painted fabby!

I wish I had more hand painted fabby but I only currently only own one piece from Sunny Dyes http://www.youthfulhandsneedlecrafts.co ... /deep-pool

Dont look at the site if you like unusual fabby....it's very very dangerous.....you have been warned!!

PM will be whizzing it's way to you soon Maud!

And now we start... Good luck everybody! :shamrock: :shamrock: :shamrock:

The RNG from random.org has spoken and our first two numbers are 9 and 10!

9. Bordeaux - DMC color code 3803

Bordeaux is the name of a lovely city on the south western coast of France, and is the capital of the local wine-growing region. In order to make wine that will have the Bordeaux appellation, the only permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère.
There has always been a friendly competition between wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy, the 2 main wine regions in France, and the interesting color fact is that both names designate the same maroon color: in French we call it Bordeaux, in English we call it Burgundy.

10. Brun Palissandre - DMC color code 918

This shade of brown gets its name from Palissandre wood, a dark reddish brown timber also known as African rosewood because the trees are natives of Congo, Cameroon, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. This wood was used for a very long time to make furniture and musical instruments (sometimes as a substitute to mahogany), but it's usage is now closely monitored as it has been placed on the list of endangered species because of over-exploitation and destruction of its natural habitat.

One number for me, I got number nine,
As everyone knows, I love my red wine :toast: !
I didn't get both numbers, but that's no great sorrow,
We all get a chance for another go tomorrow!
