 Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina. and welcome to cross stitching a fun and addictive (good addiction) hobby. What have you done so far? Mabel asked some good questions as to figuring out what you would like to stitch now.

Hello from Minneapolis Minnesota

If you are looking for some inspiration for a first project- take a look through the Stitch A Long section of this forum. Seeing a work in progress will give you a taste of that designers style. So if there is a style or design you see someone working on, google search for that designers webpage.

And.. don't be afraid to ask a question. We were all new at some point and had questions ourselves. Most questions are answered fairly quickly.
Here's an answer to a few frequently asked:
What is HAED?
No, not a misspelling for head. HAED stands for Heaven And Earth Designs. They are the designer of projects many members are working on.

What is frogging?
Taking out stitches that somehow jumped into the wrong spot. Rip-it, Rip-it

Heres the link to other answers Glossary Terms which is at the top of the Tips and Tricks section.

18 ct is stitched over 1, the same as 14 ct. you could easily get a larger piece of cloth in 14 ct and do the pattern on that instead. Or if your vision is good, working on 18 count shouldn't be a problem. it's just smaller blocks/holes thus making a smaller design.

You can do any design on any count fabric.

The dimensions of the project will change- but that is just simple math that we can help point you in the direction of stitch calculators to help you with the conversion. So don't let the fabric stop you from working on an project you like.

Welcome :D The choice of what to do is endless and entirely up to you. We have stitchers here with all kinds of interests stitching everything from their favourite performer to university pennants to still lifes to great painting masterpieces.

I'm working on a mermaid by Mirabillia at the moment myself.

I think the first thing you want to do is work out how brave you are. Do you want to do a small (weeks to months), medium (months to years) or large piece (years).

Would you prefer something that comes with the material, thread, chart and instructions all together? Get a kit. Dimensions does some fabulous small and medium size kits covering most themes. But they aren't the only company that makes great kits.

If you would prefer to choose your own bits and pieces just look for a chart you like to start with.

FUN FUN FUN
