Ship at Sea by Mr. Rick

Post by thegrindre »

I couldn't stand it any longer. I'm not waiting a week until I get my Gazelle2 stand to start this project... Sooooo, I ran over to Hobby Lobby today and bought a Frank A. Edwards scroll frame and started it.

The frame is a little awkward to work with by itself but should be great once attached to the Gazelle2 stand.

I work with a scroll frame and I do remember it was a little awkward at first but I know you will come to like it.
I hope you don't mind me throwing a suggestion at you, but if you roll your fabric from the back of the rod, over the top to the front, rather than over the top towards the back like you have done in your photo, when you lay your scroll down, it will be the back of project that will be touching whatever you put it on or if you are holding it by the rod edge for any reason. This keeps the front of your project cleaner. I hope I have explained so that it makes sense.
Have fun with this great pattern ou created. Look forward to your updates.
Cheers :toast:

Lovey design! I've been wanting to do a tall ship for ages!! I've finally found one of the Victory which I really wanted.

I second Vdivas suggestion about winding the other way, especially with hand dyed fabric, it's amazing how dirty it gets even if you take care, though with aida it is easier to wash. The other benefit of scrolling your frame like this is that the is a handy ledge at the bottom where you can put floss or scissors!!

Lovely ship! I have a brother in law that lives full time on a sailboat. He loves to be on the water. Will be looking forward to watch your progress of the ship!

:applesauce: :applesauce: A lovely start on a gorgeous project. The scroll frame is a real help to stitching and will be so much easier once it is on a stand too.

I am looking forward to seeing this one progress. I use scroll frames a lot and although a bit bulky, they do the job. I agree with wwdiva; I have always rolled my project to the inside so the back of the project rests on a surface, my lap, etc. I do the same when using a hoop or stretcher bars, and will do the same when I use my new q-snap.

I've had to rethink my issues when it comes to the jaggies and cross stitching and have made myself except it as, 'that's just the way it is', like it or not. I mean, after all, it is just simple cross stitching. :D
So, I've edited my ship's masts and poles as such.

Image

Now that this issue has been resolved, I can now continue on and enjoy this hobby as it should be...
