Stay safe uk peeps
We are set to be buffeted by hurricane force winds starting from this evening going into Monday morning....rush hour high winds and torrential rain is not a nice prospect for many I should imagine. We are located in the Met Office amber warning zone but hopefully we are far enough north to avoid the worst of it. For anyone in Southern England....stay safe and let's hope the Met Office have been a little over zealous in their predictions.

Re: Stay safe uk peeps
and keeping that your weather forecasters are being over zealous in their warnings and that all you experience is at worst a bad storm, but nothing like a hurricane force storm. Stay safe everyone. Hopefully the storm will pass with little or no damage to people, pets and property.
This is turning into a crazy autumn (Northern Hemisphere) and/or spring (Southern Hemisphere with its fires). We need the weather gods to slow down for a while!

I'm kinda pleased I'm still in Switzerland and will miss it!
Re: Stay safe uk peeps
I send my thoughts and prayers to y'all in England. 80mph winds barely qualifies as a category 1 hurricane, but if you're not accustomed to high-wind storms, it can be devastating. Cover your windows and clean up your yards. . .stash anything that isn't nailed/anchored down such as lawn furniture, outdoor potted plants, kids toys, etc and urge your neighbors to do the same, since flying debris can cause a lot of damage. Make sure you have a couple days worth of food that doesn't require refrigeration or cooking and lay in some bottled water since high winds and wind-driven rain can disrupt utilities.

I hope everyone stays safe and it isn't as bad as predicted!! Make sure you have enough food and water (and tea) to last a few days since you never know what could happen. Candles and matches are also good ideas to have along with flashlights and batteries.
Stay safe everyone and remember to stay in doors if you can, no need to go outside for anything unless you really have to.

Terrific advice and take care of animals as this sort of weather can really panic them as well (if you can bring them into shelter of some sort do).Allyn wrote:I send my thoughts and prayers to y'all in England. 80mph winds barely qualifies as a category 1 hurricane, but if you're not accustomed to high-wind storms, it can be devastating. Best of luck, let's hope it's not what's predicted.

Re: Stay safe uk peeps
I've had an email just in from a friend in Bournemouth on the south coast of the UK.
Very strong winds and heavy heavy rain all night, but no rain since 7am ish and it looks as though it might clear and the wind has dropped a lot.
Here's hoping that the worst is over for everyone.

It was ok here in Wales. I kept the horses out as they can get spooked shut in the stables, but no trees down that I could see on my land, which is a surprise as usually in these winds at least one comes down!!

That is so sad and so difficult for the families too. Sending and to that family and her friends. I have heard also that a 14 yr old boy was swept out to sea but not sure of the location in the UK.

I went out extra early this morning as I have to travel to work when the worst of it was forecast for my region. I think it must have missed us completely though as it was just raining a bit and it wasn't even breezy. Lucky for my customers as I work in an airport
Hope the worst is over for those down South and that everyone is safe.
