Early posting again today (library volunteer tomorrow morning). Glad everyone is getting at least one match. Perhaps it would help to hum carols you're hoping will be called?!

Day 4

12. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

5. Blue Christmas

12. Judy Garland introduced Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in the 1944 musical "Meet Me in St. Louis." The carol was written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane for that production, and it included a few lines that helped the story but seemed odd by themselves. For example: "Have yourself a merry little Christmas / Pop that champagne cork / Next year we may all be living in New York." Frank Sinatra recorded the song in 1957 with modified words, and it became even more popular.

5. Blue Christmas, written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson, was originally recorded by Doye O'Dell (love that name!) in 1948. Elvis Presley's recording in 1957 confirmed it as a classic.

none for me either. Still at 3/10. I do find myself humming the carols through the day though, whether or not they were my picks (assuming I know at least one of them  )

DAY 5

16. It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

3. Angels We Have Heard on High

16. Meredith Wilson wrote It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas in 1951 while a guest at the Grand Hotel in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. The hotel is mentioned in the lyrics, as well as the park across from the hotel. Artists who have recorded the carol include Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, and Alvin and the Chipmunks

3. Angels We Have Heard on High is based on a traditional French carol by an unknown author and has been translated many times. The most common English version is by James Chadwick, Catholic Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle (1862).

Aloha! Hope the new week is off to a good start for you. Have you decked your hall(s)? Spread some joy?

DAY 6

7. Deck the Halls

18. Joy to the World

7. Deck the Halls was originally a dance song based on a 16th Century Welsh dance song (Nos Galan). Lyrics were added later. The carol urges "Follow me in merry measure," actually dance directions. "Hall" was singular in the original title of the carol.

18. The words for this lovely carol were written by English hymn writer Isaac Watts, based on Psalm 98. They were first published in 1719. The words were set to music in 1839 by Lowell Mason, based on an older melody that may have originated from Handel's Messiah. Joy to the World includes the same words as in the refrain of the Messiah: "And heaven and nature sing ..."
