After a week of stitching, and possibly 1400 stitches, have progressed to the extent that the bedding is now complete, have to finish the hand her chin is resting on and then fill in the hair. I have stitched the outer edges of the hair so I can get an idea of how much more I have to do Have 2k to 2.5k stitches to go.

The model is very good looking, I agree.

I have been sending the photographer updates as I have been going along, and it appears she has been the stand-out model of his career as far as he is concerned. Apparently they got on well (so the photos were more natural looking), she was very professional, very attractive and was fascinated by every part of the process of getting from the initial idea to a touched-up/edited photograph. I have a feeling that he's not giving himself as much credit in the process as he should, as it takes more than one person to create a really good portrait.

A good few years back I went to Iceland at the same time as a professional photographer, and was standing next to him as we both took some photos of the same scene. His photos were published in 'Geo' magazine, my snaps of the same scenes were embarrassingly bad...

Richard

Finished:

30209 stitches, completed in 133 days, at an average of 227.1 per day.

Seems to have come out rather nicely. This is definitely going to get framed and hung.

I just got my husband off the settee, where he was concentrating on his cross word puzzle, to show him the finished portrait.
" Excellent" he said and commented on how talented you were.
I think it is amazing work. You certainly do not take short cuts either when you chose your projects! :D

Thank you for your comments.
Must admit I feel a bit of a fraud. I tend to think cross stitch is the one area of stitch craft where stubbornness can triumph even when there is no ability or talent to back it up! I find sewing the fabric into the frame a real trial, and the dots of blood left after that simple task show my real proficiency with a needle.

Next project will be a quick one, in mental preparation to getting a portrait of my wife done. Will have to start by getting the photo scanned (I took the photo while we were on honeymoon 22 years ago in Yosemite, and it's probably the only good photo I've taken in my life), then will be able to get the chart done for it.

Regards,

Richard
