I really hate to read that people have made an massive file with 4500 head patterns and are proud to have it. That is just so plain wrong to be proud to have received that file and (probably, no idea if she has done that, but the fact that you want to have that file, is wrong enough, I think) share it with other people. I have made a small comment about it, and will sit on my hands to keep quiet, but it is really difficult. Let's see how many people will fall over all over me in that group for saying something about it.
What do you do? Do you just say something about it in a such a group, or do you keep quiet?

I assume you mean HaED patterns. As y'all know, I can be quite blunt, so I'd have no problem saying something. If I caught flak for it and no one else stepped forward to support me, then that would show me that that's a bunch of people I don't want to hang around with and I probably wouldn't go back. Some people don't understand that they're stealing when they do that and they'll never know unless someone -- or a bunch of someones -- points it out to them. Some people don't care. They get a great feeling of triumph when they get something for nothing even if they have to steal to get it. Have you considered notifying the copyright owner to let them know? They're the ones to take legal action is there's action to be taken. Our response is merely moral outrage.

If these are illegally acquired charts then I would be sure to contact HAED and let them know what you have found out. They should be made aware so they can protect the copyright of the patterns. Both for themselves and for the original designer.

I would not keep quiet, and I would also let HAED know. Theft is theft, and I don't do well with thieves.

Definitely inform either Michele or Nikki at HAED they will go for them, they are quite rightly hot on protecting their copyright.

Ah, sorry, yes it is about HaED charts, she has 4500 !!! charts!!!

But who is the copyright owner? Is that Michele? Or is that the artist? Because I do not know wich artists are in that file of 4500 charts.

I don't know if they are illegaly obtained. But my first comment was that that had cost a lot of money, 4500 charts. And she said she had them for free. I know from a Dutch forum (I stumbled upon that while googleling an answer to a question I had) that does not exist any more, that a very big file with thousands of HaED charts was send to anybody who wanted it. So I think it is that file that she is talking about. But I cannot be sure that it is illegaly obtained. But who gets gifted as presents with 4500 seperate charts that are al bought for you by loved ones??

It's hard to know all the details, so we can't know for sure if the file is legit; but it isn't for us to be their detective. I would let the folks at HaED know and let them decide what course of action to take. HaED had permission from the artists to chart the designs and the copyright for the charts belongs to HaED, so I'd just turn over the information you have to them and let them sort it.

I certainly don't know for sure if that is an illegal file, but 4500 free HAED charts sounds very very suspicious to me. I would most definitely contact HAED and they will get right on it. As Allyn said, they get specific permission from the artists to chart the artwork and then the copyright for the chart is theirs. What amazes me is that people just post all over the internet about these types of things. Someone may not know or think about the law when asking about a single chart, but 4500???
