I would like to modify the Angel of Christmas pattern by MLI (L&L) so that she's a redhead, not a blonde. 
Any suggestions how to go about determining the DMC numbers that might correspond to a comparable palette of shadings and hues? Just experiment trial and error with a scrap of Aida? the current colors are 433, 434, 435, 676, 677, 729. I'm not really meaning to ask anyone to do my work for me, but was wondering if there was some 'secret knowledge' about the numbering of DMC line.
