There is a term "goldwork", sometimes called "metalwork" or "metal embroidery" because it can use other metals besides gold. Not sure I'd like to call myself a goldworker - people might mistake me for a gold digger :-)

Rather slower than I'd hoped, and I'm not altogether happy with the "seam" in the top half of the big petal, but I'm pleased with the shading and the stem, so all in all not too bad :-)

Mmmmm I see what you mean Mabel although I must admit if you hadn't drawn attention to it, I wouldn't have noticed it. Spring time is coming and what better time to stitch a daffodil than now. :)

Tried the prick & pounce method of transferring a design for the first time - the fabric is a bit woolly so it was difficult to get the paint to go on evenly, but on the whole I'm quite pleased with it! The hoop is a 3" one, and the mini sheep will be worked in silver materials.

:applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: Agree with Sally about the daffodil and think your sheep outline came out perfectly. Interested in how you plan to stitch it.

That is so beautiful and if I may I think you are being too critical of yourself, I'm sure the lucky recipient won't look at it and say oh it's lovely, but I'm not sure about that top petal, it is beautiful, well done

The orange middle is ingenious, it makes it into a wonderfully special daffodil, Mabel. :applesauce: :applesauce:
Can't wait to see the little lamb. He is very cute already.

GLORIOUS, such a beautiful creation. And Mabel is anything in nature in a dead stright line? As others I would not have noticed if if you had not said.

As you said to be on my topic about not stitching for a while, , we are our own worst critics at times.

I really do lvo eitMabel & of ocurse it is a symbol of Wales. Wonderful stitching as always. Amazes me how you come up with these ideas but that is why you teach these subjects & I don;t. I;m one of the followers.

Look forward to next stunning creatin of yours. Hope the new workroom/station is helping with the creative work & that you enjoy stitching in there now you have a complete room to yourself.

Oh that is so beautiful.

Is the orange thread variagated?

The texture is superb, it's so lovely I could almost reach into the screen and stroke the petals

Garnet, it is really strokeable, the silk is so soft! I keep petting the petals myself :-).
The silk isn't variegated, I'm using 5 shades of yellow/orange in total; in any one petal there is a light shade, a half-and-half blended shade, and a darker shade. The lines inside the trumpet (in the finished piece below) are blended.

And here it is, all done - there are a few things I would do differently next time, but I'm really chuffed with how it came out, and now I want to keep it! But no, tomorrow it'll be mounted in a card and sent off to Favourite Aunt.

This made me laugh...... You say that the fabric is 'a bit wooly'........

Well, so it should be for Sheep!! @rotfl: @rotfl:

 Wendy I hadn't even noticed that  - well, it'll be a proper sheep then!

The daff has been mounted in a card, and will be sent off today. It'll probably be late (I don't think anything ever made it from here to the Netherlands in two days by post) but I hope the fact that it was made especially for her will make up for that :-)

Re: Mabel's designs

I'm still working on the silk and gold Kelly Fletcher flower, and there is a silver sheep to do and another goldwork class model, but I'm planning just a few more projects...

I need a travel project for a weekend away, so I was looking around for something simple. I'd just bought a very useful zipped pouch from Clever Baggers - it's meant for tablets, but I thought it would work equally well as a project pouch, to keep a hooped project and threads and scissors in. It's a little under A4 size, so should easily take a 4" hoop, and probably a 5" one as well, which is as big as my travel projects usually are. I decided to embroider this one with the word "Mabel", outlining it in stem stitch and then filling it as the fabcy takes me while stitching. Here is the pouch, and the lettering transferred:

However, having transferred it I realised that the pouch itself won't do for this particular occasion, as the travel project needs to fit in my handbag. So I needed something else. Now I'd bought some Glorianan silks and I've been itching to use these three together:

So I'm designing a sunflower, to be worked in split stitch, possibly with some gold like the daffodil. Watch this space!

Oooh, that pouch looks very handy indeed, I might just have to have a look-see at that site, I've been using A4 see-through file thingys, but a stitchable pouch oooohhh :thinks: and of course yours will get the Mabel treatment. I can't wait to see what takes you this time.

what will you come up with next for the Sunflower, I always think they look such happy flowers :D

Those threads look so inviting and strokeable
