OK, I should be finishing some Spring Flowers, but I got distracted... (what's new!)

Here is a little Christmas project, based on a technique I saw in Kelly Fletcher's newsletter - attach a fabric shape to a ground fabric, not worrying too much about fraying or regular stitching, then decorate (and secure and hide) the edges with embroidery stitches.

This little tree is decorated with raised chain stitch.

I can recommend it, it's very quick and easy and effective!

Oh wow, that's a really interesting technique, especially for last-minute gifts. Beautifully stitched!

I got that newsletter, too. Such an interesting idea! You've executed this really well, especially going around those corners. :applesauce:

And then DH said, "why doesn't it have any baubles or tinsel?" "Because the material is decorative enough in itself," I replied. But then I thought, why not? It's an experimental piece after all :-)

Thanks - unexpectedly, bulky raised chain takes corners really effectively! On the very sharp corners I used three foundation stitches coming together on the point, and although the weaving was a bit fiddly, it did make very nice corners.

I'm truly in awe of you, Mabel. I've tried embroidery and just can't seem to get my stitches neat and even. That little Christmas tree is gorgeous and the sparklies are perfect. :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

Will it be made into something, like a card or an ornament?

Probably a card, but as it's the very first one I've tried I might just keep it in my folder of ideas!

It is perfect. I wish I knew all those words to express what I mean, but what I am trying to say is this: it is elegant, it could not have been made better.

The spring flowers I stitched for my MIL's 90th were originally designed without the number; so as to have a record of that version (and also because the other version is, of course, in my MIL's house :-) ) I stitched it, this time using standard DMC cottons rather than silks. I am particularly pleased with the daffodil!

Finished my second little appliqué embroidery, this time it's a bauble, and I've added a good lot of bling :-). One of the pics is at an angle because it shows the colour of the floral gems better, and also the shine of the silver ribbon.
