I am very sorry to hear about your loss but so lovely of you to call the cat Holly. It will be great when finished as it is looking great already. Looking forward to seeing more of her another time :applesauce: :applesauce: :D

What a fantastic and detailed cat portrait
A fitting tribute to a much loved Aunt.
I hope your carpal tunnel syndrome doesn't cause you too much trouble and will respond to rest.

It's been a while but I've finally finished the first row of pages. I've decided to rename this piece because as well as reminding me of my late aunt's cat, Holly, it also reminds me of my parents' neighbour's cat, Bud, who recently comforted me during a period of anxiety and depression (funny how animals know these things :kitty:  ). So it's now called ... you guessed it ... Buddy Holly.

Here's the pic (sorry it's not a very good one):

This is coming along nicely, lovely to see the red geranium appear. Love the new name, that's a great way to remember both cats. Look forward to next update. :applesauce: :applesauce: :D

:applesauce: :applesauce: Congratulations on finishing the first row! And finishing it so beautifully! I agree with Wendy about the hanging threads. Though you have just about the neatest parked threads I've seen! I do love the ones hanging down by the kitty's ears. Looks like she needs a hair cut so we can see her face. I am really looking forward to your updates! And love the new name of your piece too!

I don't think it is an error in the pattern so much as the source image.

But it looks to me like you've handled it very well and this is turning out nicely.

It really is a gorgeous picture. And coming on well.

Having seen the magnified image Steve posted, I'm left wondering if the original artist painted a cellophane wrapper around the tulip, or maybe a piece of tissue paper. Tulips used to be much more valuable than they are these days, and were more difficult to grow due to lack of heating etc.

Will love it when Buddy-Holly's face is visible.

I really have no idea how you can cope with so many parked threads. I got to 35, and was down to 11 stitches an hour when I had to give up and start cross-country stitching again. Being able to cope with so many is remarkable.

Regards

Richard.

This was the only image I could find with that odd colouration near the tulips, all others show some brown detail in the background or a totally black background. I think someone tried to darken the background in photoshop to make the foreground stand out better and we're seeing a line where the left area was darkened and the right area wasn't, but I am just guessing. Clearly GK used this image of the art for their pattern though.

The best, true to original representation of the art is likely here: http://collectionssearchtwmuseums.org.u ... gue.299672" target="_blank But I think the GK version looks just fine with the alterations that have been made.

Just a quick update on this one, as I've done quite a lot since I last posted on it. I'm now stitching in rows rather than 10x10 blocks in an attempt to avoid the dreaded checkerboard lines, hence the uneven progress. I'm also experimenting with the pinhead stitch to start and finish my threads. Not easy on 22 count, but doable and I quite like it. Thanks for looking!
