Finding a home for needlepoint samples

Post by Serinde »

My Embroiderers' Guild branch has been donated a group of needlepoint samplers which belonged to a lady who taught the technique. They are in good condition, and all 'on the canvas', with quite a bit of canvas surrounding most of the samples. These are done in a variety of techniques, but mostly in forms of bargello.

We only have limited space for storage, and try to use it only for tools and supplies. Does anyone have any ideas what we might do with these samples?

What a lovely donation! Had you thought about donating them to a retirement home? Or a physical rehab center? Or even to charity store?

I second the idea of a rehab center, or assisted living facility. Sometimes those places really need something bright and personal on the walls instead of being dreary. My mom broke her hip in May and her rehab facility was so dreary.

I agree with the suggestions already offered. I've donated my own stitched pieces to a local women's shelter to make the place more homey and less "institutional." Many times, they'll appreciate the donation, but won't have the money themselves for framing. If the pieces aren't already framed, you might ask a local framer to donate his work if the recipient is a worthy cause. (or if your Guild members are savvy at framing, have a framing party. Maybe host a little fund-raiser for the framing supplies.)
