I was messing with a calculator this morning (as you do  , well, as I do ) and surprised myself.
It's done at 28 count. That's 28 stitches per inch. Which is 784 stitches per square inch. No wonder coverage is so slow! I'm sure you didn't need telling just how may stitches per square inch there are, I'm just a wee bit slow - after all I only started doing a picture on 28 count in October 2014 and have only just realised.

@BizzieLizzie:
I hold the scroll frame in my left hand, so I tend to grip the left side roller of the frame, which means if I stitch bits off to the left of what I have done, the stitches will end up being crushed by my left hand when it's wound back so I can stitching the extreme right hand pages. That's why I'm going to complete the right hand side of the picture first before getting off to the left - much as I'd like to see her face as soon as possible. At this rate I may get to start the rest of the face some time in 2018.
I have revised the paragraph above several times to make it clearer. And obviously failed utterly. Hrrumph, I give up.

Regards,

Richard

It makes perfect sense! But it's a shame we'll have to wait that long to see her face. One of the first things I learned from cross stitch was patience! :D

There are actually only around 20 colours in the background, but the problem is that there are very, very few adjacent stitches of the same colour. The dithering is a bit painful, but I do like the result. Just wish I was quicker.

Richard

I re-started Luz on 22 November after finishing the snow above Gryff's tail, as shown in my other SAL. So.. I could re-start the background on page 8 of the chart. I finished that and have now started page 11 of the chart:
Image
The actual progress is as below:
Image
So, I've completed 4 pages of the chart, which amount to 21549 stitches (plus the couple of hundred on page 11 I've done since the weekend), or 19.6% of the project. It is now looking like a 5 year task, so I am still 4 years away from a finish!

Anyway, it's good to be making progress on the main figure again, even though it doesn't look much like it. Currently filling in the colours of her hair and the book page around her fingers. The lowest completed stitches are on the centreline.

Regards,

Richard.

I don't know which I like more Luz or Gryff. Both are extordinary!!!!!
I love them and can't wait to see progress in the new year!

And I never thought of left to right as since I use a 10 in hoop (helps to focus instead of a look at the while area) I tend to "spin" the work so if one way is easier I can just move.

I have a Tomas Kincade kit for the little mermaid I might try that on.

It is coming along nicely and it will be great to have more detail and interest to go along will all of that background which you've done so well on.

Really great to see this lovely design again and you are making excellent progress. "no" I didn't need to know how many stitches per square inch thank you despite the fact that the fact is interesting.

As 2017 rolled onto the calendar, I packed up Luz and put her away for a month. This is the progress at the end of 2016:
Chart Page XRef image, working on page 11:

Actual Progress:

Starting to get the left hand to appear and also the book of runes. This is, I think, the least convincing part of the picture. Luz's left thumb seems wildly over sized in the Royo picture. However, I'm not the artist in this, so I'm leaving well alone and not altering the image at all.

I am now getting on with Gryff, and a progress photo should be available at the end of next week.

Regards,

Richard.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Lovely! This is going to be so beautiful! I expect switching to Griff (who I am going to be very :D to see again)will be fun with more colors in the picture, or maybe just brighter colors. I'm sure that Luz has many blended threads to achieve the nuances in the artwork. Will look forward to next month's updates!
