The colours are amazing. It must be even more striking "in real life". Fantastic progress, Richard!

Thanks for your comments.

Gryff was a gorgeous puss, just wish he was still with us. But if he was, we'd have missed out on the different gorgeousness of Ozzie & Rooster. It's so hard with pets sometimes.

Regards,

Richard.

The chart is really a masterpiece. If I were 20 years younger (and thus had more years ahead) I would ask Richard to make a chart of a photo collage of my native town. It is absolutely picturesque, but single photos wont show all the beauty, so a different attitude would be needed. As it is, I have given up the idea. :ratherbe:

:applesauce: :applesauce: This is an amazing masterpiece and I'm sure Gryff is very pleased with how wonderful he already looks as he peers down from the Bridge. I am so happy to see him again!

Lyudmila,

You are very kind, but I don't think skill made a huge difference to creating the chart for Gryff. Having a good image was the really important thing, and Allyn's idea of putting an oval vignette around Gryff really made it work after my original photo missed off the end of his tail. As for the chart itself, there are a few options that can be selected during the conversion and I did play with all of them trying to get what looked to me to be the best conversion. After 30 minutes of playing with options, I returned to the program's default settings because they seemed best to me. For the record the settings were
  1. Colour Space Divisions: 12,
  2. Dithering 'On',
  3. Dithering Style: Default 'Custom' dither,
  4. Merge Threads with less than 3 stitches,
  5. Blend Threads Selected.
I sincerely doubt if I have any artistic aptitude/skill whatsoever. I'm an engineer, not a painter or sculptor, and I know how awful my figure drawing is; almost as bad as a Cubist's and they want figures to look that bad - but I don't. So, I have simply made the charting program produce a picture as close to the original image as possible. That has the effect of pushing the problem of the need for artistic ability onto the person who created the initial image rather than needing to have any artistic input in creating the chart.

I think it's wonderful you want to immortalise your town in thread.
Looking at my local town... Since 1945 more lasting and permanent damage has been done to the town by city planners than was done by bombers before that, and a lot of bombers unable to get to London emptied their cargo on the town. The town has been blighted by concrete monstrosities, roads to nowhere after the planners changed their minds, wholesale demolition of Victorian streets and replacement by poorly built rabbit hutches one on top of the other with houses now more densely packed than the Victorian Streets they replaced. It never was a pretty town, but there is a certain down-at-heel charm visible in the old photos. Now, it's simply bland & graceless.

Regards,

Richard
