Carole's Crochet

I've been doing a lot of crochet over the past couple of years. Sometimes I don't want to get out all the bits and pieces that I need for stitching and crochet is so easy to just pick up and do.
My latest project is the Last dance on the beach CAL, using some rather yummy Scheepjes yarn. There are 48 squares in 12 different designs making up an afghan. I'm making two of them in different colour schemes.
This is the Dance in the rain colour scheme, squares one to four. Five and six are currently blocking and seven is waiting to be blocked.
Popcorn stitch
Star stitch
Cables & bobbles
Waves
And just to show you the Dance under the stars colours:
As there's a new square released each Wednesday, you can see why I'm not doing quite as much cross stitch as usual

Crocheting was my passion before I discovered cross stitching. I made more scarves and afghans than I can imagine. And a few ponchos as well. The squares you have made are fantastic.
Keep posting these please. Don't think I will start that again, but I have learned to never say never!

Two more lots just came off the blocking boards.
Week five has seagull footprints going up it.
Week six was done corner to corner which is a technique that I hadn't tried before. I really enjoyed that one.

Beautiful work! This makes me want to pick up my crochet again. I usually crochet in the winter, but for some reason (Tinkerbell, perhaps?) I didn't do any this past winter. Hmmm....now where are my hooks?

The story behind it is very touching, which is what attracted me to it even before I saw the sneak peeks of the finished afghans.

What a lovely way to remember someone so gifted . Your work is amazing Carole, such even tension and so many unusual stitches too.
I enjoy crochet too and often do it in the very early morning so as not to disturbed the family too early. It is so handy just to pick it up and away you go.
Looking forward to the next update.

I've got well behind with the CAL. It's finished now and I'm still working my way through the squares. I didn't think I'd keep up with eight squares every week though so I'm not bothered by that. I'll get there in the end.
The arthritis in my thumb was getting a bit painful so I had to ease off a little with the crochet but it seems to be a bit better now so I may be able to get some more done soon.
The lastest squares.
Week five and six in the Stars colourway:
I really liked doing the corner to corner stitch. I can see myself using that one again for something.
Week seven and eight in Rain:
The bobbles were easy and fun to do but I loved, loved, loved that waffle stitch.

love them! love them! love them! I still have bags of yarn left from my crocheting days which stopped when I discovered cross stitching! I love those stitches. The waffles are lovely and the hearts are adorable!

Those hearts! I can't but admire them! They'd look lovely if you'd join them and make a blanket for some baby boy.
