Thomas Kinkade - "The Cross"

Post by eliabbro »

Hello. This is my first time posting on this forum...so my apologies if I do something wrong. I began working on Thomas Kinkade's "The Cross" in mid-September. I began by stitching blindly...then learned about "gridding" so you will see from my photo, that I added grid marks after about 1/5 of the way through project. I must say, the grid lines make a world of difference! Anyway, here are some shots of how I've progressed. Plan is to complete it in February 2016. Thank you.

 Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! Glad that you have joined us and looking forward to seeing your work. Thomas Kinkade drawings always make interesting and detailed pieces. Most of the ones I've seen have been the Disney paintings and they are usually beautiful. Have you been stitching for a long time? And no apologies required since its pretty hard to do something "wrong" here. If you aren't sure of how to do something, just ask. We all had to learn our way around the forum. We are a pretty busy, but fun place to be. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Well, nearly 3 years later I finally finished this project...it has not yet been framed. I wasn't happy with the granularity/pixelization of the pattern. Also at least half was tweeding which was a pain. Wouldn't recommend this pattern to others.

I hope this link to Pinterest photo works:

How lovely to see you again! :whoop:

The link worked for me. I think you're being a bit hard on yourself. It's a grand finish (and a big job, too, with tweeding), and from a distance the pixilation resolves itself.

What's next (or are you still recovering from finishing this)?

That is great, really superb, congratulations on sticking with it.

Sometimes the image conversion to thread colours is not as good as we'd hope. It is frustrating, as it's out of our control with purchased charts or kits. However well we stitch the chart up, the best stitching can never improve an unsatisfactory chart. Having experienced this myself, I feel for you. In my case, I responded to this by wanting to make my own charts with free software, and after a while I ended up making my own conversion program that can switch between blended (tweeded) output or plain colours. If you are interested, a link to the program is in my signature - it's free. I have added my own thread definition file to make the colours as close as possible to the real colours so as to minimise the effect of the 'industry normal' thread definitions which seem a bit wrong to me.

Regardless, you seem to have stitched the chart beautifully and it's something to celebrate.

Regards,

Richard.

 Welcome back!! It is so good to see you again and with the bonus of seeing your lovely finish. It looks perfectly stitched and with the amount of color variation I'm sure was not an easy stitch, by any means!

Hope you will be sticking around for a while!

That must have been a challenging stitch, and I'm sorry you're not entirely over the moon with it as it is an impressive piece of work you've produced! Unfortunately many of the design decisions are out of our hands when stitching kits :-( . But looking at it as a "viewer" (rther than the way you look at it as the maker) it is still a great project!
