Long legged cross stitch to make up a scissor keep

Post by jocellogirl »

Working too hard has meant that I haven't been on here for AGES, but I'm hoping one of you lovely people can point me in the right direction. I bought a Sue Hawkins scissor keeper kit http://suehawkins.com/shop/pansy-scissor-keeper/ and am ready to stitch it together. I have ended up with a square piece of stitching and the instructions just say "Fold the square in half and join the short sides together with long legged cross stitch in mauve working over one canvas thread from each side of the seam to make the join". I'm about at my wits end trying to stitch the thing together. Does anyone know of any YouTube videos that might be able to help please. I've tried googling it, but nothing :(
Thanks in advace for any help :)

Long-armed cross stitch. (Arms. Legs. who cares?) It's a very simple stitch, much used to cover fabric quickly in the Middle Ages! Would join two sides together well, because you get a sort of braided effect.

Here's one from Nordic Needle: http://www.nordicneedle.net/2011/05/06/ ... ss-stitch/" target="_blank" target="_blank

and here's one with a pretty clear photo: http://www.textileartsnow.com/2015/03/t ... titch.html" target="_blank" target="_blank

Thanks Serinde. I managed to find a video with someone stitching two pieces of plastic canvas together and I’ve got the hang of it now. It looks really pretty, like a plait. Very effective, but really simple (a bit like me!) :D

So glad you found a video for it. Mabel used that stitch on a hardanger piece a year or so back and it was fun to do.

Goodness me Sally, what a memory you've got - I'd quite forgotten that :-) ! But I think I just used it as a surface stitch, not one to join bits together. This looks very effective; pretty pleasewill you post pictures, Jo, of the finished seam? (scuttles of to SAL section to see if it's there)

This is a close up of the seam. It took me a little bit of working out, but once I got my head around what I was doing and found my thimble , I rattled through it :)
