False start

Post by poppy »

I put my Angel Of The Morning away for a little while, thinking that "The choir" from Peter Underhill would be easier as it is stitched on Aida.
Well, I gridded the Aida and started stitching. I never realised before that Peter Underhill likes putting lots of "squashed stitches" in his chart.
I finished one cat face and then realised that I cannot split the Aida to make so many squashed stitches. Far too many!

So, here is Plan B : Use some evenweave then at least the squashed stitches will be even.

Carole sent me a lovely piece of evenweave for stashmas... I will start again tomorrow

Oh those so elegant double stitches within 1 square of aida are definitely a pain even though they look wonderful when done.

Definitely as wise move to ditch the aida and get out the lovely evenweave which will be heaps easier and quicker too. God Luck with it Helene/.

I cant stitch on evenweave, so make all squashed stitches on Aida - just need a really sharp needle.

I'm so glad that the evenweave is being put to use so quickly! I used to stitch a lot of Teresa Wentzler designs and discovered pretty quickly that there were a lot of 1/4 stitches involved. That was early in my stitching career and Aida was the only fabric that I had stitched on. I managed with a very sharp needle and a very sore finger to stitch them. Now I only stitch on evenweave and occasionally linen and find it easier for me and also now have very few 1/4 and squashed stitches to deal with. I tend to do things backwards
Can't wait to see your updates!

What a shame but good luck with your new start on the evenweave  I'm glad you didn't get too far with it before swapping!

Thank you for your encouragements :)

Lyudmila, your stitching is always perfection. You are more experienced than me and very careful. I found that I did not split the Aida always evenly, even if I was careful.

I’ve got a design with tons of squashed stitches, too. Thank you, Peter Underhill. I’ve restarted it twice now...and it’s in a time-out for awhile. I will get back to it, though, because I love everything about it, other than the squashed stitches.
