Mabel's RSN Certificate - Jacobean

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

I thought I'd better give this its own thread :-)

Preparing for tomorrow (with the help of the Joining Instructions which arrived this morning - that's what you get for unexpectedly having your first day a month early!) by choosing possible colours and collecting scribbles.
More on FoF.

I too am amazed at how neatly you bobbinate, your threads, a work of art in their own right and the colours are gorgeous. The scribbles too look very interesting. Have a really beaut time at the classes. :)

My first day of the RSN Certificate module for Jacobean crewelwork was memorable for containing practically no stitching whatsoever!

But don't worry, I didn't waste my time :-) - I chose my colours, decided on my design, and even got the first line drawing done (and yes, stretchy Lexi is part of it!)

Angela Bishop, the tutor, warned me that whatever it looks like now won't be what it will look like when it's finished, so I'll be interested to see what it eventually turns into....

(More detailed report of FoF - sorry to do it like this but it's useful for me to keep my reports in one place, and FoF is a practical way of doing it!)

Oh that is interesting Mabel.

I love how it is sinuous and Lexi look like she is getting herself into mischief with some yarn wrapped around her :D

The colours will work beautifully on this design Mabel and I can't wait to see your start.

My threads have arrived! Lexi is not sure about being turned into a ginger cat though - she thinks there are plenty of browns to do her more justice :-)

What a gorgeous rainbow of colours and oh so interesting to see what shapes they take on later. Dear Lexi looks completely at home amongst more threads and fabric. :)

Oh my, I can’t wait to see this progress. I just love the design! I think Lexi won’t mind an orange cat too much...after all, the ginger cat won’t get treats like Lexi does. :-)

The ginger cat is also a reminder of our Alfie, who shared our lives before Lexi.

Lexi looks like she can't wait for you to get started either :D

Lovely colours you've chosen, I can see why so many threads are needed for your lovely design.

What a lovely way to remember Alfie too.

Great design, excellent colours (even if Lexi seems to me to be looking slightly askance), and is that a doodle cloth I spy?? :wip:

As I haven't been able to stitch on the actual design yet (at my next class I'll finally be transferring the design to the fabric, yay!) I've been trying out stitches and colours on doodle cloths. Some just to see whether I could do the stitch, some to see whether a stitch worked.

Here is my attempt at trellis or lattice work:

And here is the stitch combination I intend to use for the snail:

Battlement couching proved tricky to get regular and even - the first layer looked fine, but by the time the others were added, there seemed to be rather more room than there should be on the left. Angela said in those cases you just sneak in an extra line afterwards, so I did to see if that would look better, and I think it does!
