I decided to make another quilt. This time, it’s a QAYG, and when the squares are done I will join them with sashing. I’ve never done this kind of quilt before.

Here is the first square.

I know almost nothing about quilting, but think this first square is great. I love the combination of patterns and fabrics. The colors work well together too. I am looking forward to seeing what the next square will be. Will each square be different or will some be the same? And however do you decide?

QAYG = Quilt As You Go? What exactly does that mean? (I'm no a quilter so I have no idea what the opposite would be :-) )

Are you planning any fancy stitching, like a crazy quilt? (ah, baseballs... *sigh*)

That looks most interesting Roland and I look forward to the updates on it. It is certainly very colourful.

That is unusual, not seen anything like that before. Look forward to seeing more. :applesauce:

The squares will all be diagonal, but the width of the pieces are varied. Some squares have five strips, some have 3, some 4.

Quilt as you go means each square is quilted, then it’s all put together. I have just a normal sewing machine and with this type of quilt you never have to have more than one square to the right of the needle.

No. This square is backing, quilting, and strips. Where each strip is sewn on is the quilting. It’s not a really “pretty” back, but I picked a material the stitch8ng doesn’t really show much. Unfortunately, I don’t think I have enough.

I have about 10 or 15 squares done. But I’m so bad at taking pictures. I’ll try.

I look for easy. Lol.

I would love to be able to do something fancy, but even these take me forever.

Had my camera with me when I was in my sewing room.

These 9 are positioned the way I originally planned to sew them together.

But I think I like the way these 9 look more.

Either way, there will be thin sashing between them. Probably chocolate brown.

This picture is how they look when I finish sewing, but before I trim off the excess. The square in the upper right corner is the material for the back.

I like the diagonal placing too, gives it more depth somehow. I like your choice of fabric for the back too, much better than plain backing. Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt. :) :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

Definitely agree on the diagonal placing, more visually striking. Nice work! :applesauce:

Another vote for the diagonal version!

Finished a quilt for my granddaughter. She forgot she asked me for one. I expect she’ll want it anyway, when she sees the colour and cats.

Thanks Sally.

Usually I take it to an oversized washer and dryer in a laundry mat to start the fraying. But, still to much Covid in my area, so I don’t want to.

What a gorgeous colour combination, and the overall quilt is so beautifully balanced!
