Post by Roland »

I got a Cricut for Christmas and I’ve been playing around. Made this cup (front and back]).

Brilliant mug! No idea what cricut is, some sort of die-cutting? If so, how do you attach it securely to a mug?

I agree! Both with how great the mug is and the question about cricut?

What fun you’ll have with your Cricut. My sister has one and makes her own cards.

A Cricut is a cutting machine.

However....after making a few mugs I discovered I bought the wrong vinyl. For mugs, I should have bought permanent...and I bought a removable vinyl.

I eventually want to get some heat transfer vinyl as well....for making designs on shirts. Or, on material for quilting.

In case anyone didn’t recognize...”Hello Sweetie” and the kiss is from Dr. Who.

I also made this cup...also with the wrong vinyl,

The second one got a smirk from my son.

The lettering on the mug is really good.
I have a sizzix die cutting machine called a big shot.
But I have never cut vinyl probably hard to get the placement on your curved surface and I would make a Horlicks of it. But otherwise I have used mine for cutting leather to card and paper and I really enjoy it.
Have fun with it. Sizzix have a 80% off sale last few days now at sizzix.co.uk
I bought most of my dies for my die cutting machine there . To my knowledge they work great on other cutting machines so long as you can physically fit them in the opening.
Best wishes with your new toy

I don't know what is right vinyl or wrong vinyl but I do know that I love your mugs. :applesauce: :applesauce: Are these pre designed patterns or ones that you have created yourself? I don't know anything about this craft and thank you for posting your pics.

I’m curious, too. I’ve only seen how Cricut is used for cards and scrapbooking.

Sorry so slow responding. I really haven’t been around much.

To put it on a mug, you have choose a design that you can cut into. A solid circle or square will not work because it will buckle up and you cannot flatten it.

Permanent vinyl should be used for things you want to stay make forever. Removable is intended more for things like decorating a wall, where you will eventually want to remove it with no oily Mark left. But my cups are still as good as when I first made them.

I find pictures on line, and save them as SVG to use on Design Space (the program you use to send the pattern to the Cricut). There are a lot of free patterns available too though.

I made this t-shirt for my husband. It is true. I did make a mistake on the arrow. But it’s the first shirt I made, and I think it’s not bad.

:applesauce: :applesauce: If that is the only mistake on a first attempt, you shouldn't even point it out. I love the shirt, and I think the arrow gives it a special uniqueness. Actually, it kind of underscores the whole meaning, I think. Congrats on a job well done!

Almost forgot, I did a shirt for me too. I took the picture right after I finished it. The iron marks have since disappeared.
